Unhappy I Think My LH is Toast, Can't Afford Replacement - The Saga Begins

This car almost left me stranded this morning. It's now stalling at stoplights, it won't hold an idle when it's warm. When trying to restart, it sputters, runs really rich and then dies. the ISV doesn't want to save the motor from stalling, and if it does, the car runs really rough like it's on 6 cylinders (probably because it's really rich).

I know how much brains cost and I can't afford taking my car off the road right now to ship and replace the LH. I can't afford to buy another computer either. I have no choice but to get rid of it now.

I'm going to put new brakes on it that I have had in the garage this week, take some pictures and then list it tomorrow. I need to get a daily driver more reliable now..

It could also be a bad MAF... have you tried a known good one?

I just bought a damn MAF for the thing from Louie. It's about 100% calibrated as you can get. In fact, it didn't make any difference replacing the MAF.

That's exactly how my LH failed. Final straw was coming back from the track and filling up with gas. Wouldn't start after filling. Had my other brain with me just in case and it fired right up. I know it's a lot of moola, but $600 isn't bad compared to the cost of not having a 928.

Good luck..

QFT. Beg or borrow an LH from a friendly local while yours is getting fixed. $600 is less than 2 (3?) months of car payments.

That's very nice of you Jorj, but I dont' even know when I can save the money up to rebuild mine and give you back yours. I'm saving for a house right now and paycheck to paycheck is pretty much how I'm living at this moment.

If you are intent on selling, then verifying the LH is the true culprit is essential. The car isn't worth crap as it sits. If you can positively note the LH is bad and otherwise the car runs well, it will go a long ways in turning a $2500 S4 into a $6 or $7K S4... IMHO...

Roger has them rebuilt for $495.00. I did mine when it wasn't bad (didn't know it at the time) so I know what you mean about just tossing $$ at it.

If I had an extra one Mongo I'd let you use it, but alas, I don't. Sorry.

Starting a car payment on a car you cannot stand is probably not the best idea when saving for a house.

If I have to pay $1,500 cash from the sale proceeds for a POS to put-put around in for now I will. Right now this is too damn depressing to deal with. I have exhausted my patience with it.

I have felt like this with cars I've previously owned. It sucks. Sorry this happened.

I'll kick in a $50 bucks for a new LH

Mongo--let me know what vendor you want to use.
