When did the 928 get brake ducts?
I'm assuming this began in 1983 with the introduction of the "S" but I was curious if any of the "Competition Package" cars had functioning brake ducts.

I believe any of the early cars with front spoilers had the brake ducts. 1980 sounds about right, but don't trust that Jim Bailey guy, he doesn't know jack about 928's. He tells a good story... but it's fiction in its purist sense.

FWIW, my MY 80 Euro chassis has brake cooling ducts.

Yes 27 years after the fact little new is coming out. Probably hard to find anyone at Porsche who was even there at the time The dealers in the US were having trouble selling the none S 928s after the car magazines showed the Euro S so they gave them the LOOK just not the engine.

Availability makes sense. I have yet to see a complete list of what you got with the competition package and wasn't sure if brake ducts were part of it.

My 81 has everything "assumed" to be included with the competition package.......except S brakes and LSD.
Figure that one out. Either mine is one and the brakes / trans were not part of the package or someone spent a lot of money adding spoilers, sport / non power seats, 3-spoke sport wheel, 16" manhole covers..... I know the owner history back to the mid 80's.
My honest opinion is the competition package was 100% cosmetic except I guess the brake ducts help performance a little. I've run into another owner of a car like mine - everything except S-brakes & LSD.

I have S-brakes, rub strips, and LSD.
I understand in MY 82 the sport seats were not part of the deal.
and No 3 spoke wheel.
I take it you have the ducts.
Trying to make sense of this package makes my head spin.
Has anyone done the Cardex lately for option codes? With good results?

'81 MY did probably use non S and non duct brakes despite spoilers as brakes are not mentioned in sales literature. AFAIK all '82 MY US cars had S brakes but no air tubes for front brakes, except Competition Group cars as they had spoilers and could use ducts. Thus there are very likely two different versions of Competition Group brakes, '81 MY non S and '82 MY S.

Anyone with recent Cardex experience?
