Niki Lauda's 928?
Hi Everyone,
Speaking to my brother today he recalled going to a Porsche dealership in the 80s and seeing Niki Lauda's 928 in for servicing. He said he was told it was a one off special edition form Porsche and that it had lowered suspension, fat tyres, etc etc Has anyone got any info/pictures of this car? Sounds very interesting..... Cheers Rawky |
I don't know but I do recall Lauda doing, at the very least, the commentary for a little segment during an F1 race in the '80's where he was talking about drafting and late braking and the example that they showed was a perfectly matched pair of 928 S's! Then it showed the 928 over taking a lesser car and immediately being overtaken my Lauda in his Porsche (TAG) McLaren F1 car from the early '80's! Pretty cool! Would not surprise me a bit if he owned one.

James, I think this is the video you are referring too (that 928 sounds amazing, had a good start too): http://www.metacafe.com/watch/94731/...s_ford_sierra/

Maby that 928 in the background when Lauda is putting on his helmet is his.

Yup, that was it... there was another one though that had two Porsche 928's around the same track w/ the overhead helicopter shot of the cars over taking each other. Probably shot it the same day they did that one. They were showing how drafting worked.

FYI.., the driver of the Sierra was F1 1976 World champion James Hunt, who died tragically at the age of 45.

Hunt was also known as Hunt the shunt and another slightly different name with most of the same words in the new sentence, he got lucky to win in 76 and if I remember correctly that was the year that Nicki Lauda had his bad accident at the Nurburgring.
A big drinker and smoker which probably lead to his early demise, his commentry was great and inciteful Greg |
I vaguely recall Porsche - Excellence Was Expected referring to a 928 specially prepared for one of the factory race drivers, but surely that was not Lauda.
