Yes..

With an avatar like yours - just don't drive it wearing tights, OK???...?

I hope this helps - but.... I'm pretty sure it won't....??

What year and type?

Check the timing belt before you drive it anywhere.

As long as it seems in good shape you should be fine, unless it isn't, then you won't be.

You do realize that your S2 will out perform it in just about every way known to man......do not sweat the t-belt much it is NOT a valve bender....

Mrmerlin 09-01-2009 08:28 PM

yes JB has a point...... look for an 84 or newer Euro or an 86.5 or newer US car

You should know that some pretty good 928's crop up in that price range, including S4's.

You should also know that the US-models didn't have much power due to different heads and cams than Euro counterparts, up until the '85 32V engine. There are grey-import Euro cars with the 4.7L engine which have the higher power output (grey import vin starts "WPOZZZ").

If you don't mind it being slower than your 944, do your own wrenching, and the interior/exterior on the car are in good shape, you'll do well.

If the exterior/interior are rough, walk away and keep looking in the same price range for one with better condition and more power!

You should also know from your sig that the 928 is fat and soft.

right?

Year: 1983

Type: 928

It's an '83, non-interference engine, screw the rotten TB, just get in and drop the damn hammer!!!

Don't let the lack of performance fool you. With a compression that low on this 928, you can supercharge it later for more fun.

Mrmerlin 09-02-2009 12:49 AM

since you dont own it yet better to look for a newer car with more engine and bigger brakes

Unless of course you just want a 4.7 16v 928S, and don't mind embarking on a line of improvements. That's what I'm doing, love my '83.

I've just picked up a nice OB last month and don't care in the slightest about how "slow" it is. I've owned plenty of faster, newer and more expensive cars - including two prior 928 S4's. The 16v's offer plenty of fun for the money.....Plus you can go historic plates and classic insurence on these old buggers. The way I figure it, I will own the car for free -- in saved insurence premiums -- in several years.

Sure they are older, but if the car has been well sorted out it seems the to be a good way to go....No ABS, no Airbags, non interference engines (A big plus in my book), mine has no sunroof, no powerseats, no rear air, no heated seats. So much less to worry about and still as sexy and modern and fun as a newer 928.

(1) Don't let anyone touch it who doesn't come with great references from this forum.

(2) If you disregard #1, make sure your home bar is fully stocked, valium and xanax prescriptions filled & see if you can get in touch with Marc Emery et cie...

Well if you can before purchase, take it to a PPI to get checked out. Look into all previous records and how far they go back. Check all the electricals, as german are known with gremlins. Flex plate needs checking if possible. Good solid body with no rust and repainted areas.
