Houston Texas Victory Motorcars ?

There are several dealers with "Victory" in their title. This particular one is a no-nonsense, only-the-best, air-cooled 911 dealer (personal experience). I could only guess that they can answer fewer questions about 928s than 911s. Pursue a full PPI, plus flex plate check as always.
Google them for location, maybe Roger is close enough for a PPI.

Good Morning
I am new to this site. I am in the market for a Porsche 928. This vehicle has been on eBay several times now. The last auction ended on Jan. 14, 2010 with no sale. I believe that the sale price is $15,000. The location is Montgomery, TX.
This one could be my first Porsche. I am fascinated by these 928's. I have been trying to educate myself as much as possible.
My question is about this particular car and if anyone knows anything about it and the dealer.
Thank you in advance for any information which you may be able to provide.

I always liked the presentation of the Victory cars. Seems like quality stuff, albiet at a premium. I recall a couple years back someone getting a Victory 928 and being happy with it.
Other options for having help in locating a good sample are to contact Todd (Lowmiler) to find one for you. He does a good job restoring. He's in Indiana (find him over at the other site). There's a guy Michael Wilhoit in St Louis as well - his are premium 928s.
Good luck, and post what you get - pics are mandatory

James,
Welcome to the forum. This is the best place for information on 928's hands down! The amount of knowledge in archive form here as well as in the minds of the members is staggering!!
$15,000 would be ALL THE MONEY for an S4, but a nice one (ie. low miles and nearly perfect in every way) would be worth that EASY and would be a GREAT CAR to buy! Have it checked out by a mechanic who knows 928's VERY, VERY well! Dealerships don't know 928's for crap usually, so don't trust a dealer.
There is a great group of 928 owners growing in the Houston area, I bet one or move of them would be more than happy to help you out!
Good luck and keep us posted!
If you want to come see some of the best 928's in the country you are welcome to come over and look at my collection some time...not sure where you are but Houston is not all that far from Austin if that's where you live.

Welcome to the site.
I've seen this car on the market for a while now. Most of the 928s Victory has had seemed way overpriced, but maybe they are highly negociable.
Montgomery is on the far north side not too far from Lake Conroe. Perhaps one of the Woodlands folks would be interested in taking a look.
Unfortuanately even in a city the size of Houston, I don't have a mechanic I could enthusiastically recommend. There was a guru named Paul Koby that everyone liked years ago, but he has retired. His shop is still operated by his former helpers (Koby Motors), and they do have lots of 928 experience, it's just not like it used to be. You could also call Micheal at European Auto Techniks on Spears (Rankin) on the north side. He's expensive but does know his stuff, and has seen quite a few 928's over the years.
The community of owners is one of the best parts about 928 ownership and essential for learning about these cars, so definately connect with the locals if you make the purchase.

Well folks you sure know how to make a guy feel welcome.
I live in Florida and with your greetings I would buy a 928 just to be part of the group.
I returned from viewing a 1988 Porsche 928 manual about 150 miles from home. White with burgundy interior. The front fender was off color but the body and interior were outstanding. 58,000 miles and two owners.
The timing belt light comes on around 3000 rpm and needs to be replaced although it was completed 6,000 miles ago. Problem is it was done in 1999.
I have been searching for a mechanic and I think I found one close by. He says he has 30 years experience and started as a 928 tech. He has been in Porsche shops the whole time.

James,
That sounds like a good car you just looked at... A respray (if it was REALLY needed) on the fender would probably not cost to much ($1500 tops I would think) and two owners is nice.
You are correct on the T-belt. Past due at 10 years. My cars live in climate controlled garage and see little use and I have accidentally gone 11 years on one of them and 10 years on two others! I took care of all that last year though.
My S4 had the same issue with the belt tension warning coming on...better that than an all of a sudden broken belt!
Good luck!

The seller wants $12,500 for it with the belt issue addressed. The fender is off color because I believe that it was in a fender bender.
I was dumb and forgot to take my camera and magnet. The seller said another person looked at it with a magnet and didn't find bondo. I find it a little hard to believe that a painter couldn't match the color. Maybe they just replaced the fender with the closest match.
If the front fender is aluminum will a magnet tell you anything?
Assume that the shop is 200 miles from the car. Question is it safe to drive (slowly) or should it be put on a flatbed?

Then the next question is where I started here on this Houston area 1991. Is the $15,000 1991 better than the $12,500 1988 ?
I know that sight unseen this is a tough question.
I know the 1988 is great in and out. Have not completed a mechanical inspection yet but assuming that it was OK.
Assuming each car is equal in condition and the 34,000 mile difference is all that needs to be compared. What is a rough estimate?

James,
A couple of things:
A magnet tells you NOTHING AT ALL on an aluminum fender. A little bondo would not bother me at all, if it all looks straight who cares... get the color issue fixed if it bothers you that much or don't.
These cars look GREAT in white, IMHO!
I'd take an '88 5spd in equal condition at $12.5k over a $15k 5spd or auto '91 ANY DAY OF THE WEEK!
You will love the 5spd and if you track the car the '88 will most certainly last longer than the '91 (if the '91 is a GT...which would mean that it has a 5spd...a '91 S4 would indicate it is an auto). I know I will get panned for this, but I know of no '87-'89 5spd cars that were regularly track and had an engine failure. I know of MANY '90-'91 GT's that have had engine failures being tracked... YMMV!
Go for the '88, you won't be disappointed!
Oh, 200 miles is a long way to drive w/ a T-belt warning light... I think it would be better to fix that before the long drive or flat bed it... just my opinion. Better safe than sorry as they say!

I sold my 96 C4S to these guys and they were all business. Had the money fast and they arranged the car carrier to pick the car up. From my perspective they were good to their word and the transaction was smooth.
