Just in the middle of replacing my ODO gear, and finding the gear is snug on the shaft, enough that it has some resistance to spin. The old gummy stuff is all cleaned off the shaft, so that is not the problem. Is this gear supposed to spin freely or have a little resistance?
BTW - THANKS to Dwayne for this write-up. So nice to just flip through the pages as you go!

So I get into the cluster and...
Dwayne, thank you so much! I'm just looking forward to getting this back together...I wanted to clean the connections but Does anyone know why (a) previous owner would have soldered these two contacts? Something to do with the speedo - which only works sometimes.. and when it does its 5 mph off...
Now I cant clean because of [whatever this is] because i cant get the plastic off. What would you do?
i have attached photos..

Amazing write-up and step by step instructions. I took mine apart to verify it was the gear and sure enough, the gear teeth had many missing teeth. I have mine apart and just ordered the new gear. Can't wait to get it back together and back on the road again. Thank so much Dwayne.
