I would think the difference there is almost entirely 5 speed vs auto. If you want a 5 speed, you'd probably take that over any year auto. At least for me, when I was first looking, I knew I wanted a 5 speed. This was going to be my fun car, not my practical car, and 5 speeds are fun!

Auto vs 5 speed.
S4 vs "SOB" vs OB
Color

Those are all things that are personal preferences.

Personally, I'd rather have an non-LSD auto S4 over a 5speed lsd '86.5. I just don't really care for the looks of the pre-S4 cars

Having both (2) 5 speed cars (83 & 79) and a 91 S4 they are each their own beast. I love the 5 speed for just having fun. The S4 is fun as well just a little different Styling wise I like the S4 and GTS's but also like the OB's. Each one drives a little different (just like a woman) and has it's own personality. I think I need a few more so that I see the other differences... lol
