Default Transmission leak 88 s4

I've had a slow leak the entire time I have owned this car. Yesterday I was putting my neighbor's Harley in my garage and saw the horror. There was a river of trans fluid on the floor. It appears to be coming from two places, parallel to each other. What would cause this to happen out of the blue? I have'nt used the car for about two weeks. Thanks, Doug.

auto trans?

if yes, the gbox pan is held in place by 6 bolts sealed with a gasket. The gasket can fail and the bolts are only lightly torqued.

Theres the oil reservoir which can leak at 3 points......where it attaches to the pan, Oring; the filler cap, seal; the overflow hose which attaches to a nipple on the res and goes up to the gbox body.

The pan and torque convertor each have drain plugs with washers.

Best is to get it in the air, clean off the entire area, start the car and inspect.

This makes no sense at all, but when i got my 89 earlier in the year, it was leaking badly on the garage floor. After I got it running and added fluid it stopped leaking completely. It was not running when it was leaking so it didn't have anything to do with hot or foaming fluid, but it was definately very low.

One of my leaks came from the small reservoir. I purchased a new reservoir and seals from Roger. I don't think it was much more than $30 bucks for everything. I decided to do an entire trans flush and replace the other gaskets as-well.

The biggest pain for me was getting the fluid add to the correct level. You must check the fluid while the car is running. Don't forget to put the cap on before you turn the car on. LOL

Had the same problem on my '89, it was the pan gasket. Ensure you get the latest/greatest updated pan gasket (Roger has 'em) and follow the pan bolt torque procedure exactly. I needed an inch/pound dial torque wrench to do it properly. Have not leaked a drop since!
