Sorry to hear about your problems Shane. Why can't these things happen on a simple blast to the grocery store instead of ruining what sounds like a fun day?

I feel that we had a pretty safe tune on the car with respect to fuel and timing advance. At this point I would like to think that age was the major culprit in the failure. It will be interesting to see what you find out. Let me know if I can help out in any way.

The only thing tuning wise that might have happened was not enough fuel pump to feed it up top, and running up to near 6k rpm in 3rd might have starved #4 for fuel.

Well when I get time I'll pull the engine and take the heads off for a look.

Did you try turning the engine over with the plugs out to see if any coolant squirts out?

Yeah that was the first thing I did to make sure it wasn't sitting in the cylinder corroding the rings. No coolant came out or anything else for that matter.

Right now though I'm working on my gray 5sp to get it road worthy and off my jackstands and PorKen Bars, then I can get busy with pulling engines and lowering the compression ratio...

BTW, you might want to talk to Tony about getting the pistons dished. He's got a guy in vegas who's already done a bunch on his CNC machine. Might be the cheapest way to go about it.

Drive it for a few days to acclimate yourself to what stock feels like , then you can put in the chips (LH2²r/55 + new EZF'r) I have for you, and that AFPR you have on your shelf.

You may not miss the supercharger as much! ...sorta...ish...

Hard to say. Plugs don't look bad at all. #8 looks cleaner than the rest but still hard to tell. I don't recall your fuel pressure falling off at all on the dyno. the 044 pump would be an updrade for the system. I run one on my wifes S4 but I never had a problem with the stock one keeping up either.

If I remember correctly, the fuel pressure was not falling off on Shane's car, but the 42lb injectors that are in it were pretty much maxed out at the stock '85'-'86 fuel pressure that he was running. The air/fuel ratio was still okay though. At the time, it was mentioned that an S4 fuel pressure regulator be used instead of the stock ones on his car, to get a little more fuel flow potential out of the 42lb injectors. The higher fuel pressure that an S4 regulator would provide would be a little more of a burden on the stock fuel pump, so an 044 pump might not be a bad idea, but you really wouldn't know if it was necessary until you tested with the stock pump at the S4 fuel pressure.

At his power levels I am abit suprised that running the 044 wasnt done. I would have just because.

I also would put an S4 FPR on there right away as I have found that the stock S3 unit lowers the pressure too much when the engine has a good tune and starts to pull 23in HG vacuum! This in turn affects the idle quality due to the lack of proper fuel atomization.
