Spring Rates
 

I have started doing the replacement of my front springs on my 1980 Euro S. I have a set of springs from a 1986 S. The 86 springs have three green paint marks on one of the coils. Does anyone know what the green paint signifies? and how they compare to the factory spring on a 80 Euro S. I know that the 86928 weighs more than my 80 so my thought was that they would be stiffer. Not that is matters much my current springs are done. The ride height is less than 140mm at the crossmember. So anything will be an improvement. We bought a complete pair of front spring shock assemblies and broke them down, have all the parts I want to keep cleaned and will be putting them together with new shocks and the rideheight adjusters this week end. If there is time we will do the install on the car.

3 x green are the stiffest of the bunch, if I remember correctly. It's what came on my '84. All the color codes are outlined in the WSM. Pay attention to the "L1 = 191mm" measurement as they use different compression distances for measuring the different types of springs. In theory, the force (N) over L1 (mm) should give you your spring rate. The triple greens are about 210lbs/inch with this calculation.
