Fabio, we still have that 86.5 80k block at Rogers. Fully apart.

It would be a 5 liter hybrid so I've heard that the 85 - 86 short blocks are better but I'm not sure why. Is it due to the low compression ratio you end up with on an S-4? This will be a boodted engine but since its a turbo and not a twin screw I don't know if I want 7 to 1 compression. It would be a dog at the bottem end.

Not sure the block matters as much as the pistons. If you're fly cutting the pistons in place or at least using the ones that come with the block, go with the 85-86. It'll still be lower compression than the stock Euro set up.

Well considering that I'm looking for a short block the pistons will still be with the rest of the short block. So if I get an S4 it will have S4 pistons and vice versa.

i had "heard" that the early 32v cars 85-86 had thicker cylinder walls, but ive asked some people about that and they discredited that.
The blocks are different for mounting the intakes but otherwise i think you can plop just about any crank and set of pistons in there assuming the pistons and rods work with the CR of the head your using.

the 86 and 86.5 blocks I have do indeed have thicker liner walls by 1mm all around.
The 85/86 pistons have less of a dish which will result in a higher CR thus more desireable for NA cars.
If your car is boosted with turbos go with the S4 bottom end.
And it may be abit of a dog at 7:1CR but you still have 5.0L so it will still move.

Gottcha, what I meant was if you already had fly cut 100mm pistons, the block would not matter. The current pistons in my block were not native to it. On my fist hybrid block I cut the pistons in place and was not as happy with the results, or the time it took.
