Hot Air From Center Console
When I open my windows the vacuum creates hot air and I mean HOT AIR coming up from under my center console to the point that the metal base of the auto stick will get hot. My wrench is stuck as it appears that the insulation is all in place. This thing is a real bummer...Has anyone else had this and what was the remedy? I seached and nothin' doin.

Just because you can see the foam there, it does not mean it is all there.
Mine just had fell apart in many places I could not see.
Just a touch and in places, it would crumble.

If the motor mounts are bad (as they are on most 928s), they collapse enough to let the foam insulation pull away from the floorpan. This allows hot air from the engine and exhaust to enter the opening in the floorpan and thus into the center console.
Plan on getting really. really dirty and frustrated over a long day of work as you replace the motor mounts, steering rack mounts, rack boots and oil pan gasket - but the results are worth the effort!

also what can happen is that when the TT is removed the foam padding can be cut or not replaced correctly or eaten by animals, any of these things can cause the foam to not seal.
Worn MMs can also cause this as they let the drive line slip down a bit and then the foam isnt pressed up into the chassis hump

Can the motor mounts be checked visually and is replaciing the foam and the motor mounts lateral jobs meaning if I'm doing the foam (or having it done in my case) than the MM's are just a step away?

resurrect thread (rennlist search function really sucks anymore). I know this topic has been covered, but what are the easy fixes for that insulating foam under the shift lever?

In my case, my motor mounts had collapsed compromising the fit of the foam gasket against the tunnel. Replacing your motor mounts will probably cure the problem.
