Hot Air From Center Console

The motor mounts were replaced on my (new to me) 85 in 2011, and just under 8K miles ago. The torque tube was also replaced awhile back, and I'm wondering if the insulation pack wasn't fit properly (per Stan's thoughts from way back when). Is there a fix that does not involve dropping the torque tube? Maybe pull the console and repack insulation material around the shift lever?

I can't recall precisely if the foam pad is accessible from above the torque tube through the passenger compartment, but I seriously doubt it is. I was able to put small foam insulation from above as a temporary measure until the torque tube could be removed as you suggest. But that was a very temporary fix for hot air intrusion into the passenger compartment.

I removed console and shift plate and used some fiberglass insulation from a water heater blanket I hadn't used down either side of the shifter etc. until the tube gets dropped next time. The stuff is non-flammable and doesn't react to moisture etc. Pretty easy to shove it into the small areas with a flat bladed screwdriver and hot air is non-existent now.
