IIRC you can possibly get the connector for the air cleaner temp sensor and the AAV mixed up the air cleaner connector will give about 5 volts and the AAV will give 12, this should happen with the key on, make sure to check the hot post connections for corrosion and also the fuses.
And inspect igniton and fuel pump relays ( swap these out ) .
If you did connect the wrong way then you probably will have fried the temp sensor for the aircleaner

unfortunatly Stan the 85 is an LH and doesnt have the WUR so no issues there.
I cannot for the life of me remember if the 85 though has the Bosch idle valve or the AAV.
If the latter it should recieve 12V once the car is started. If it does not, do not worry about it, it will simply have a slightly higher idle for longer.

Colin I believe that the 84 and the 85 both have LH systems and they both have the air temp sensor installed into the lower half of the air cleaner housing, is this correct??
My 84 Euro had these connectors swapped by the PO, its easy to do as they both look very similar, the only difference was one gave 5 volts and the other gave 12..
OK I think I may have used the wrong word its Aux air valve or AAV

Stan,

Yes the 84-86 euro with LH has a temp sensor in the airbox, but there is no WUR. That is for CIS cars only.
It could be that the connectors were swapped for the AAV and air temp sensor, however this is unlikely.

clear on air box and aar leads.
but the lead to the part #928 606 102 03 has no voltage not 5 or 12 volts with key on.
relays are perfect not a issue . were should the 12 volt originate from ? lh pin# ?
the po had tapped line once before and yes as usual the %@& geman wiring from the 80s is just crumbling.
i have removed the connector to see if that was bad but no voltage were do i need to trace voltage origin ?

I just checked the part # and it is the AAV or AAR, whatever you wish to call it.
Then I checked the factory manuals. They show the Bosch idle valve for all 1985 MY.

However the power lead would come from the same place if the AAV was used.
This valve will get its power from the Fuel pump relay, the same spot at the +12V for the injectors.

check the grounds that connect to the right side cam housing IIRC there should be 2 sets of ground wires that are secured to the tops of the housings, these are for the injectors and my also be be for the AAV.
Also with the multi meter turn on the key and ground one of the leads and with other test to see if your getting 12v at the plug , the ground may not be connected to the plug

Sorry I forgot to mention as the injectors and AAV get their power from the fuel pump relay they will only see +12V with the engine running.
I think I forgot to add that to my last blurb, and to get power to them, you must pull and jumper the fuel pump relay.
