Me also.

It's insured when the damage comes from a fire - act of god... or inattentive mechanic.

So DEVEK rebuilt it two times, and State Farm paid for both engine rebuilds due to an "inattentive mechanic"? I'd think they weren't too happy when the second claim, for another engine rebuild, came in for that same reason again.

1 - DEVEK DID NOT rebuild the engine twice.
2 - DEVEK reworked Eric Muncks tuning to make rated boost Eric built this "low compression" engine.
3 - as DEVEK was tuning and boost was rising to rated, an injector rail popped off due to former builder not installing injector clips (no clips) and caught fire, small fire, but fire never the less.
4 - Once fire damage fixed (no engine work), and all systems brought up to spec thus allowing full rated boost without detonation, it split a cylinder! It was later determined by insurance agent to be due to poor "o"ringing placement, workmanship and non factory materials ...pistons (was galling cylinders severely and was on the verge of seizing due to coating failure).
5 - DEVEK rebuilt the engine using a factory short block, tuned it for safe running at 440 or so rwhp on pump gas and it has been running ever since.

It can be easily tuned for 500 rwhp...it is a GREAT deal...someone please buy it, stick in a manual trans (if that is the way you want it) and rule the planet!

but first, let's get the record straight....

Awesome car!
And I drove it in May 2002 before it was boosted..!
Eric Munck the Skunk let me drive when I was visiting him in California to buy a supercharger kit from him.
It had custom exhaust and the same seat belts.
It was my first GTS experience and about a month later I bought my own GTS in Germany.
If I had the cash I would buy it ASAP and ship it across the pond!

The original build has a lot of 'history'. One is that the builder drove the car as his own and let others drive it. At a local gathering here, he brought a set of damaged/burned pistons by with upper ring lands crushed from detonation. Wanted to know if they could be reused. We didn't get to see the block, but that piston damage was severe. Based on Marc's description, it's possible those went back in anyway, or another set was installed with no repair of the bores.

The good news is that Joe did everything right when it came time to recover the car. As Marc and Joe state, everything was done to make the car good again, including the expected SC performance.

I'll add a little here. Eric must have done something when he drilled the oil return holes in the pistons, before the block work. Maybe that work was pressurizing the crankcase. Who knows. Eric sent the block to a very qualified machine shop (one that Mark A uses I think - forget the name). Anyway, the shop broke their honing tool while working a cylinder and ended up buying a block from Mark A (as I understand it). They welded it in. After Marc T fixed the fire damage, the repaired cylinder cracked, resulting in the factory short block.

Here's a good one. When Marc pulled the pistons out, he found all 8 rods were slightly bent. So we figured this was Eric's way of lowering compression. I confronted him, but he denied doing it.

$25k for this car is giving it away. Someone buy it!

I love fighting... at least in this case... I wouldn't sell, but I miss a convertible and you can yell, British stuff. If you know the tale of the other white car, you'd acknowledge I got a bad taste in my mouth with the project. I aquired an 07 GTI and stage 2 pumped it for daily driver, autoX, and track car. 300 hp in a 6 speed DSG. Time for a garage queen change. Have a 66 Tiger in my eyes...

Hi Joe, my dad is interested in purchasing the car. I don't know if he's gotten in contact with you yet, but I just wanted to know if it's sold yet? He's owned 4-5 928's, two of which were full restorations, and he's always wanted a GTS... I know it would make him very happy to put this beautiful white GTS next to his other white beast (92 512TR)...
