I bought a oven for preheating parts, got the big Miller water cooled TIG and I still take the important stuff to some one who does it daily.

AMEN, hence my original comment.

Add that to the "in common" list too :-)

Funny thing is this week I have been welding the dang little bitty steel dipstick tubes for a bunch of SharkVents. I know everyone says TIG welding steel is easier than aluminum, BS, give me aluminum to weld anyday. As in anything, it is always what you do the most that is the easiest.

namasgt,

Best of luck with your repairs and speedy recovery in getting your 928 back on the road where it belongs. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.

Some of the stainless is very easy, but I have to agree 100% on regular mild steel.
I have not even turned mine on in months, I might not even remember how to run it.

I use the MIG for a lot of things.

I took the heads to the machine shop this evening. He told me since the heads are gona need some welding I should also do a valve job.
I asked him what kind of welding method his gona use and he said he does not know, he sends the heads out to a welder to weld for him.
I do not know what to do at this point but I left the heads with him. Im supposed to take the gaskets to him next week so he can see how much exactly the sealing ring seals.
he said the welder has to weld one spot at a time, each time leting it cool down before going to the next spot.
