Default tire size mistake?

I think I screwed up with my recent tire purchase. I figured it was easy as I just ordered what was on the car when I got it. Unforturately I was doing some searching here after I got the tires and noticed that people who run a 17 inch wheel run a tire that is 40 tall. I just had 2 fuzion ZR1s in 17 245 45 delivered.

Again, this is what came off of the car and it seemed to handle great. What kind of problems can I run into running too high of a tire? I'm guessing that my speedo will run a little low ("Really officer, my speedometer only read 65, I was going how fast") Or is this the only real drawback?

It just seemed too easy.

Should be about 5% different as I see it. Enjoy spring in Missouri.

245/45-17 should be fine. It's about 25.7" vs 25" for stock. You didn't say front or rear. That's a good size to get a little more rubber in the front and match up with 275/40-17 in the rear.

Punch in the tire size on Andrew's calculator here and it will give you the amount your speedo will be out. However if these are going on the front, this will be a non-issue.

Many may know this already, but it takes a 26" tire for our speedo's to be accurate. I was always thinking I would be speeding when i put on the 305x35s which are 26" tall. verified by radar many times, almost dead on.

Thanks. Makes me feel better.

I did forget to mention front or rear. Unfortunately this is rear. I am planning to upgrade to some bigger wheels in a year or so after I finish up some maintenance that is eating my Porsche funds currently. The intake redo and some other fixes have the account depleted.

Right now the front only has 215s on it. Not enough.

Are your front rims 7 inch width ? If so you are somewhat limited in how wide a tire will work well.

Rim sizes are limiting me. I'll be keeping my eyes open for a bargain on Carrera IIIs. If I can grab a set for less than $1K and can sell my current wheels for something I will be very happy. Just have to wait a little.

I have 255/40/17 on the rear, which calculates to 25" so how far am I off?
