just buy a rebuilt one from one of the suppliers they are relativley cheap less than $250 with shipping i have tried used ones before and have never EVER had any luck with them if you need a core to send in for rebuild hit the auto wreckers and get WUR off of an early 80s 2.5 ltr turbo audi 5000 or 4000 the casting is the same and the guts are all repaired in the rebuild anyway good luck

My experience is the same as Paul's. I tried rebuilding myself, I tried used ones, no luck. I bought a rebuilt one and have been fine ever since.

Kevin they are NOTall the same...BUT the euro will run with the wrong WUR just not like it is supposed to run ! Since the WUR is the brains of a brainless system it is what controls the mixture at all times during warm up and also adjusts for vacuum , altitude etc. It is the key to getting CIS running while many fuel distributors get blamed and replaced .....the rebuilder has said that nearly half of the ones sent to him have NO PROBLEM .... In the past is was very hard to get Euro regulators and few knew that they were different so many shops / dealers would fit the USA unit and the car would be able to drive away .....Which is the goal of all shops have the car drive away after they have paid their bill.

No SH*T Jim!?!?! I had no clue of that. My 82 Euro has a US WUR and seems to run nice and strong. What is the difference in the US version and the ROW? Should I be looking to replace it at some point?

I believe that it gives somewhat more enrichment at higher RPM high throttle opening .....the fuel distributor is the same , the airflow sensor the same....what is different is the WUR....so if a 300 hp engine needs a different fuel delivery curve it MUST come from changes in the control pressure. The 28/11 , 28/ 12 Euro 4.7 S uses a 928 606 109 04 BUT the 28/01-04 ....28/09 and 10 engines the 4.5 use the 928 606 109 05. The WURs only job is setting control pressure which determines the fuel mixture.

The euro WUR has two vacuum ports (side and top). One is for manifold vacuum and the other is intake vacuum. Not sure how they affect enrichment differently than the US version. BTW my 78 US also has the 2 vacuum ports. Converted?

Keith,
One vacuum diagram in the WSM shows a single vacuum port but a later diagram shows two. All the other WUR's from my 924 and 931 (both US) were a single port. Now I'm really confused!

couldn't I just drive down the pin to get a better control pressure Jim? Believe it or not it now has a WUR from a 500 series Mercedes! I just wanted the one that belonged on it.
