Default Whats the use of a Used Torque Tube? (For Sale?)

A couple of years ago the torque tube in my 86.5 5sp started getting really noisy. I was in a rush and had it replaced with another used unit without rebuilding.

So, I have a torque tube (in need of rebuild) that I don't need. Does anyone need one to rebuild while keeping their car on the road? What is the value of a torque tube in need of a rebuild? $250 maybe?

Next post will probably be on my 75k 5sp transmission with 2.2 rear end.

Thanks.

So are torque tubes still a-plenty or a rarity?

And 5 speed transmissions still easy to find?

Just went into my garage and realized that I still have 928 stuff. Yeah, I know I haven't logged in a really long time and have a membership lapse. With the right answers, I will re-join.

The tube is not the part Mark wants as a core, it's the shaft and tube. The tube is worthless w/o a good shaft unless you are willing to buy a new (aftermarket) shaft. I had several tubes here with bad shafts and just tossed them.

How do you identify whether a shaft is bad or good?

Rebuilds are generally about replacing the TT bearings aren't they?

I have the full transmission and torque tube (with shaft) that came out of my car. Both were functioning at that time but was starting to get some whine from the TT.

Thanks!

I think as these cars are getting older and parts become harder to find. Any core, even if the shaft is bad, should be saved (if you have the space) for the future when rebuilding them will be economical.

I just had a batch of new shafts made and I would have been happy to buy your bad cores.

Lol. You were the one years ago who told me you didn't want them. I've still got two here I'll need rebuilt and I'll hang on to the those from now on.

Deformed splines would qualify as a bad torque shaft in my book.
