Smile Best 928 mechanics near Napa, CA

Does anyone know a great 928 mechanic near Napa, CA?

No specific problem issues at this time, just wanting to identify one in my area for general maintenance and if anything should arise.

Sonnen Porsche said they have great expertise with 928's but I would like to hear who else is out there and any good or bad experiences with dealer vs independent mechanics.

Thanks!

I know some other 928 owners in Napa. I'll ask. A lot of people treck down to Hi Tech in San Rafael.

BTW, I'm planning a Napa-based funride in Late October/Early November. Stay tuned.

Hi Tech in San Rafael is good. Deven knows 928s. I'm curious what else Sonnen had to say about working on a 928. A friend recently tried to take his '83 928 to a Porsche dealer in Oakland and they refused to work on it - too old and complicated was their response! ???

Called Sonnen today - spoke to a nice guy named Dave - I asked about their experience working on 928's and he said they work on many of them around the area - Asked how much just to do a complete inspection of the car and he quoted about $360 and will take several hours - no real specifics beyond that and then again I just drive them, not mechanically inclined to even ask the right questions

Just want to find someone that can be completely trusted, is not too far away and knows the 928 like the back their hand - I, like most, have general trust issues with non-recommended mechanics and want someone with deep, specific experience in the 928

Very often people tell you what you want to hear, the real truth be damned

I would recomend Hi Tech in San Rafael they work on 928s on a regular basis. Also Bill Ravina at Ignacio Motorsports (on the other side of the freeway in Novato) He was factory trained while the 928 was still in production. You can find their contact information at www.norcal928.org Bill has put up great info there.

It's good to know Sonnen will work on the 928 and say they have experience with them. I'm a little afraid to ask how much a TB job would cost at the dealer so I'll probably just take mine to Hi-Tech. Mine is due for a bunch of "routine" maintenance and I want to get the C & R radiator from 928 Intl which I don't think Sonnen would install. Let us know where you end up taking yours for service and your experience there.

928napa: Greg's one of my Napa contacts. The other one, Dave Benson, uses Hi Tec, I believe.

I just had my intake (88 S4) redone by Bill Rivera at Ignacio Motorsports in Ignacio (Bill is owner / chief mechanic). He definately knows 928's, is professional in every way, does great work, and in my experience more reasonable than lower Marin prices. He's just south of Highway 37 off 101 on Hamilton Drive (closer to Napa) and keeps you out of the San Rafael 101 mess.
