Group Buy, Clear Bra for Boston Area Shark Owners
I've been talking with Dave C. about seeking out a high end clear bra installer in the Boston area and getting the installer to do a custom made template for our cars.
The goal is to have a bra that covers any areas of the paint that are prone to rock chips. The areas that come to mind immediately include:
1. Front Bumper
2. Front half of Front Fenders up to 1/3 of the wheel well
3. Hood with same cut off point as front fender
4. Entire Rocker Panel including immediately behind front wheels
5. Behind rear wheels and the lower portion of the rear bumper
6. Mirrors
7. Immediately above windshield
To get a really good installer to take interest in this project we estimate that at least 5 of us need to show serious interest in having an installation done by spring/early summer of 2009. Dave and I estimated the cost will be anywhere from $500 - $600/Car which seems to be the going rate these days for a really good install with full coverage. The difference between what we want to do and the usual installer is that we can expect a perfect install since everything will be done on a template first. Dave C has offered his GT as the template car and I can work with the installer to make the arrangements. To date no templates exist for the 928 in this area, not sure on others.
For anyone in the general Boston area (or further out if your willing to travel) please let me know either by posting here or via PM/Email if you're interested in having a clear bra installed. I will make a list of those on this thread that are seriously interested and then we will begin the search for the installer.
If anyone has suggestion on an installer or additional coverage areas, please let me know.
Current List as of 8/29/08
1. Dave (GTS)
2. Shane (GT)
3. Afshin (GT)
4. Greg (GTS)

Thank you for the tip Brian, I will definitely look into this.
I was also going to check with the local Porsche Dealerships to see if they had a recommended installer.

If I recall, Carl knows a local Porsche guy (has a GT3 i think? Or is that the Ferrari guy? I might have the stories mixed up) who owns a company who manufactures and installs these clear shields. He made the one on Carl's S4, although I think Carl did the cutting (step in and correct me if I butcher your story Carl)... Probably a good chance he'll be at Lars Anderson, may be worth chatting him up to see if we could get a good group discount on his product.
And when I say 'we', I mean you guys with the nice cars ... The paint on my shark is too far gone to be worth protecting, maybe after a touch-up and respray down the road.

Thanks for the tip Chris. We will be exploring every option to determine what is best and this will be one of them. The other possibility is to contact the manufacturers directly and ask them for an installer or determine if they have an expert in-house that can do the template and then have them pre-cut by the factory.

The guy that did venture shield on my car will do 928s for $400, but to do more areas you will have to talk to him. I paid $500 and that was a discount... I still have the backings from my car if someone wanted to do the pre-cuts themselves.

Afshin, just to be sure; you know I'm in.
P.S. Your avatar? So, the Beverly Hills Car (BHC) left the garage?

Yeah, the GT does get out now and then. Last Friday Nic and I went to the local cruise night and then did some driving on the back roads. He loves going for drives in the shark and is constantly egging me on to go faster.
