It's something I've been wondering about myself lately, I think my 928 was previously converted (engine code is an auto, but gearbox is manual). What about electrics/ecu, any difference there? Is the dash cluster any different between autos and manual?

I agree with Sterling- I did my clutch master/firewall mod myself, using a piece of firewall provided by 928Int'l for a pattern. You make the cut in the firewall smaller than the orig, so that the new piece sits on a flange to rivet through. I cut the firewall with a small cutoff wheel using the donor piece as a pattern, then riveted the new piece in with a piece of the donor as a doubler, steel rivets and epoxy. Its been in there for 10 years of hard use and never caused any problems.
I did not change the ECU, but I did add a 5-speed intrument cluster to be rid of the auto markings.
I don't have any pics.

That's the only difference. When you switch into reverse with the 5-sp, the R lights up on the auto cluster...but other than that it stays dark. Several of my bulbs were out anyway.

I read in the a/c thread that was going around last week that the a/c pulley on the engine for the auto's is actually a larger size to let the a/c pump turn faster since autos usually keep the revs down vs a manual. Manuals have a smaller pulley on the crank to keep the revs down from burning out the condenser. I may have that explanation screwed up but I intend to look into that more closely when I go to refresh my a/c.
Yeah that Strosek deserves a good 5-speed!
