Is it still a Weissach without the original paint?
Hello!
I recently purchased an 82 Weissach edition 928. It is my first Porsche, and I love it. I have always wanted a 928, and when I saw this special edition for sale I pounced. Unfortunaly, the 26 year old paint is very faded. I am the third owner, and the previous owner must not have known that it was a special edition and did not take care of the paint. If I were to repaint it (though I do not think I can still buy real Hellbronze, can I? If I can, where?) in a color as close to possible as the original, would it still really be a Weissach? The paint would be done by a local shop that specializes in high end cars and does lots of Porsches, so the job would be first rate.
Basically I am asking, is a repainted Weissach still really a Weissach? The interior also needs help. $$$$. Luckily, it runs great.
Unfortuantly it does not have the luggage or the badge, but I am researching it and hope to find out which of the 205 it is. Anyone have any info on how to do that? I contacted Porsche and they told me that it was very difficult to tell. I am going to fax them proof of ownership and they said they would do some research. Fingers crossed.

Not really a replica
I don't think it would really be a replica. I would think of it as restoring a damaged Van Gogh. I wouldn't be taking a non Weissach and making it look like a Weissach. I think that would be making a replica. This would be more of a restoration of a damaged original.

I thought the Weissach edition cars had a plaque on the dash that SAID which one it was out of how many??
ROGER! Where are you? Roger is the owner of 928sRUs.com and you will need to get to know him well. He is our '82 special edition 928 EXPERT! He has 2 Weissach's and a Jubilee! Rog is THE MAN when it comes to these cars.

Fix it up the way you like it, keeping everything as close to original as possible and it will be a RESTORED Weissach! Will be worth more or less? Hard to say and it would depend on the buyer. For the average person if it looks nicer it will be worth more and would ultimately sell more quickly to a "collector" (and Roger is the ONLY one for those cars! LOL! Just kidding Rog!) it MIGHT be worth more in original unrestored condition.

Thanks! Looking forward to hearing from Roger. Yes, they came with badges that had the number, but it was not mounted to the dash at the factory. It was a separate piece. Owners would/could mount them there. They were easily lost, like mine. it is probably in the original owners attic or in a landfill somewhere (LOL).

If the car is restored to original condition, I cannot see why it would no longer be a Weissach. Even if it's not restored properly, it's a Weissach, albeit one that has been messed-up and lost what was special about it...
In terms to your interior: Can you be more specific as to what needs to be done? Do you have any pictures of the car that you could post (or send to one of us to post them for you)? It's always easier to make a recommendation when we can see in detail what the issues are.
You may want to talk to two great members here - Rob from 928leathershop.com and Paul from designpaulchampagne.com/PorscheLeather.html. AFAIK Roger doesn't do upholstery in-house, but knows the Weissach better than most of us.

The Weissach edition does not command any more resale than an example in same shape of non-Weissach persuasion. It has no more horsepower, no better suspension, no cooler features .. no hidden magic ... just appearance and name.

A decent shop should be able to match the original Glazurit paint to keep it looking like a Weissach model. If you need some help finding a shop I can refer you to the shop that does all my paint work on the left coast.

I was not going to say that it was worth NO MORE than an '82 Competition in like condition, but that is probably pretty close. I would say it might currently be worth slightly more than a like NON-Weissach but not a lot... I think in the future a NICE Weissach might expand that gap though and become a more valuable car, especially if it has all the goodies with it...if it does not have those things it will be a tougher sale!

Was it Rog or somebody who had a Weissach with the dash plaque that was not affixed to the dash. The plaque was still in a bag and had not been stuck to the dash with double stick tape.

Ernest, yes I think it was Roger's Weissach, that he got as a B-Day present that the badge was not attached to the car.
I own a Weissach edition. I agree with many here that unless you have the luggage and the car is in pristine condition there is not much extra value in the car.
The color, Hellbronze, can be matched and painted by a quality shop would improve the look of the car. I am considering the same as I have some crazing and clearcoat issues.
The interior is unique and has three different colors of leather.
Whether it is a Weissach or any other 928 the value is in the eyes of the beholder. Get it repainted and fix the interior. They are great cars to own, fun to drive, and you never get tired of just looking at them.
Good luck and post some pictures when you can.
