Who is paying for said color change? THe answer should be simple, He who plunks down the cash ultimately makes the decision.

but, I personally would try to influence him to keep the color original, for aforementioned reasons.

I, too, would say go original, and then see how you like it when it's nice and shiny again. If you don't like it, you can add vinyl or wrap the car in whatever. If you resell the car, it'll be worth a lot more in the orignal color. Painted stripes are the death of resale value. Basically, you pay more (for the paint job) to make your car nearly worthless.

I did about as thorough of a color change on mine as a person could do without removing everything from under the hood. It is no small feat. Ultimately it's his car and I presume his money, so he can do whatever he wants. I would personally recommend that if he changes the color, to go with another factory color. All car companies (including Porsche) hire color consultants who tell them what colors they should go with for each model year based on various trends and what not. A lot of people make the mistake of picking a color they like, and putting it on a car they like, and the end result is a car and a color that don't go well together. Then the car always looks repainted. By sticking with the factory colors, you don't have to worry about whether or not the end result will be to your liking so much.

Awwww!! What a great opportunity. I would advise painting it one of the Ford or Chrysler Candy Apple Red's.

I'm thinking of going that way with my track car and it would be nice to see a Shark in that color before I make the decision.

Another option is black base coat and a deep red clear coat. In most light it will look black but some lights will show it as red and some purple. My son in law (now EX son in law) painted my 80 Monte Carlo that way and it made quite a hit with the younger crowd, but not my wife.

Repaint in a new color!! Black is terrible, and it is the slowest color out there, try RED it is a nice fast color!

Original color all the way. I think black metallic is cool. My old 928 was black metallic, but unfortunately don't have any pics of it.
You are right though, it isn't a deep black color. More of a dark charcoal.

Normy's 85 Euro is black metallic though I'm not sure if it was originally.

Dean - my 19yr old is at the same point with The Blue Car. Although he likes the stock color, he can envision how cool it'd be to have it Red or something louder.

His daily driver and he can do what he want's with it ...BUT... since I would be "helping" to get it done, he can do what he wants with strong consideration for my guidance while he takes time to learn more about the process and cost/benefit particulars. Besides, he remembers that I paid the $2k for it, so he has to listen to me

All in all, they're young and changing-it-up is exciting. That said, they'll change their minds again in a couple years and wish they picked a different color anyway, so it seems more emphasis on functional, comfort, ride, performance is a better long-term strategy. Less expense as well, to stay with the same color, so perhaps have him price around for same vs- change with jams etc, and he may recognize why he should stay with stock.
