So I've been reading through all of the speedometer posts and thought I would go into the spare tire well first, but didn't find any pitures of the plug everyone was talking about. I have 2 plugs back here and one of them just ends into a jumper, so is that normal or what the heck is going on back here. Tried looking though the service manual and couldn't find anything about the extra connection. Seems like I can cut the wires and reconnect with new connections correct?

Speedo and odo just started goin off and on. This is a 1982 5-speed by the way. Thanks for the help, Josh

If you own a digital volt meter I'd use it to trace for correct ground and power before cutting wires.

Remember brown wires on a Porsche are ground.

I have the wiring diagrams on CD; BRB.

Connections looked a little crusty so i tried to sand them a little but female side is so small thought it best to just reconnect with new connections as it looked like some others had done. I was just curious what the extra connection was all about since it appears to be just a jumper.

From the pics it looks factory...........the diagrams are not very helpful but I seek the pic of the jumper to confirm.

Been looking through the manual also and can't find it referenced. I agree it does look factory and almost the same as the other connection just confusing the heck outta me. No time to trace it today but will try to follow it in the next day or so.

Wire for an antenna? Check the wiring diagram, E42.

I had an intermittent speedo problem as well. When was the last time you changed your printed circuit board in the dash pod? This solution solved it for me, as well as fixing a lot of quirky readings and intermittent warning lights.

Car only has 50k on the odo and I haven't had any problems before so maybe it's time to work on the pod was just hopin' the easy stuff worked first.

I thought the antenna wiriing was behind the tool kit. Is this wrong?

Can someone with an '82 take a peek behind their spare tire and tell me if they have this extra connection. I would really appreciate it. I was just really wanting to make sure that this wasn't spliced in by a previous owner / previous idiot.

It is, but I'm not sure what path it takes to get there. I wasn't sure of my answer, I came up with that from browsing the wiring diagrams looking for a 3-wire connector that might be "optional".

Yeah this thing is crazy. It definately looks factory but can't find it referenced anywhere.

It's raining sideways right now with hail on the way so I won't be working in the garage today. I guess, I'm going to stare at the manual some more and see if I find it otherwise I'll have to wait for better weather to trace this thing in the car.

Calling any '82 owners out there Please see the first picture and tell me if you have this extra connection in the spare tire well. And do you know what it is.

that oks factory on my 85 the 2 wire connector black.
i questioned it as well looks very radio schackish

This car is bone stock no add on's. And no electrical gremlin's "knock on wood" So far just the speedometer/ odo cut out on me a couple of times and wanted to catch it before it screwed with the mileage.

My '82 5-speed has the exact same connector and looks exactly like your picture.
