Default Please read NOW – This post is about YOU.

Over the next 72 hours, This Forum server (forums.rennlist.com) and the adjunct sites (Member Upload, Attachments, etc…) will be moved to servers and circuits owned by the new owners of Rennlist – Internet Brands. For that:

Please copy and paste this post - in case you have any difficulties – but, here is the short version of what will happen. First – as you may have noticed, the circuits in the last 24 hours have been pretty busy coming into this site. That’s because we have many GB of data to move across (which is happening as you read this!).

Second – we will change IP addresses for this Forum – and when that happens – you may see for a few hours, that this site is “closed” with a redirect to the new IP. If you see that – hang on – your DNS Servers are refreshing to catch the new servers/circuits – in a bit – you will be able to access the Rennlist Forums as you do now;

Third – IF YOU HAVE AN ISSUE – please e-mail me at admin@rennlist.com and I.B. and I will push a refresh if your issue is not resolved in a few hours;

Fourth – the Frequently asked questions:
  • Yes – Jen and I will be on Rennlist during the transition;
  • No – Rennlist Memberships will not be affected;
  • Yes – the Rennlist Forums and the five million plus posts will stay intact;
  • No – there are NO OTHER RENNLIST SITES OR SERVERS AFFECTED AT THIS TIME (such as the Rennlist e-mail accounts, Classifieds, E-mail discussion lists, Galleries, Registries, Tech Sites, Member sites, etc., etc. are back here in NH for now.

On a personal note – this May 2008 – Rennlist comes into its eleventh year of operation. This is the first time ever a server, circuit, router, gateway – whatever – has NOT sat about three feet from where Jen & I live or work. And for that – this is as big a change for us – as it is for you. Since 1998 – I could always walk over and “kick start” a server – literally.

What are we working on now? Just this…. And with all of you – neither Rennlist nor Projects like this would have happened…

My best to all,

John D.

Does this mean there will be changes in the future? Is Rennlist going to become a giant advertisement based forum,etc??

On a side not, thanks for all you do.

I haven't been here but for about a year, but I've been on "forums" since BB days - you guys have made this one of the best I have ever seen. Thanks, and onward and upward!

Actually...

Thanks to all you folks.... With all of "you" - Rennlist would be a mighty lonely place.... And yep Martin - the 928 BB was one of the first three Web BBSs' we put on the Internet (about two years after the e-mail lists?? I think in Sept 1999, after the e-mail lists went up in May 1998?? ). Guess that means I'm old

Anyway my thanks back to all of you who are posting in this thread.. You folks are what it's all about - not Jen nor I.. As for us? We are just like you. The site was started by a couple of "Porsche Enthusiasts". And still today - I still just post as one... That's all there is. There is no more...

Will there be changes in moderation and posting policies? Will Randy still be protecting us?

Virtually all of the "popular" sites are bastions of advertising glitz. Rennlist has beem up until now, a glarring exception to that rule. Reality is that it take money, time and effort to keep a first-class web operation going. With John and Jen wanting a 'life outside of rennlist', it's a given that a way will be needed to replace their onging efforts with those of paid staff. Advertising glitz pays for that. Just as we support our Rennlist site sponsors, we'll likely start seeing banners from Google vendors that relate to keywords in posts. Maybe they will in fact apply to what we are discussing.

My universal remedy to universal griping is to go ahead and try this yourself at home. Maintain a system that can support all the rennlist users with reasonable apparent performance and security. Ask your friends to donate to support your efforts, but don't require it. Call me when you are feeling good about it. Meamwhile, we've certainly been spoiled in the JD years. Minimal adverts, and all from Porsche and usually 928-centric sponsors. Reliable personal attention, good cops and bad cops, a focus on the mission and the users. Thanks for spoiling us JD!
