Default Is my timing set right? Pic included.

I used the front wire on the passanger side as #1.

Disconnected vacuum line, and checked it at 3000 rpms. Manual says to set it at 20 degrees.

On the harmonic balancer I have 4 sets of marks... 1/0, 0/T , 1/0, 2/0 and that is going clockwise on balancer.

Where is 20 degrees on this? 0/T I assume is TDC?

Pics is as close as I could get it bumping the key.

O/T stands for "oberer Totpunkt" or TDC.

Since the crank turns clockwise, the 2/0 mark means 20 degress before TDC. The position that you have it right now at is about 20 degress after TDC

I use a socket on a long wrench from under the car to turn the crank to get the timing marks perfect. Also, because I'm under the car I can't see the marks on the other side of the harmonic balancer, once I get it set perfect (trial and error, jumping back and forth), I scribe marks on the harmonic balancer underneath the car to help me on subsequent settings..or at least to warn me that I'm getting close to the right setting.

yeah, what are we looking at here? why are you setting anything for 10-20 degrees after TDC. remember, the crank turns clockwise
so, the timing mark you are looking for is 20 degrees btdc, and thats to the right of where you have the pointer set at.

I need to check the timing on my 81 as well. Why are you using the crank bolt and not a timing light? Am I confused??

Pic is with the car off. I am using a timing light.

I just assumed you unhook line, hook to plugwire #1, and twist distributor till you get it to line up with 2/0. You set it at 2/0 that way and it runs like crap. May have to visit Roger and let him wave his 928 wand over it.....

Jason, you make it down for the GTG this week with the DFW crew? I had to miss as my son had state lacrosse tournament.

That's pretty much it, as long as your hook up the light to the #1 cylinder and not something else.

Sure didn't I got the car back late Friday and had no time to clean it back up for the trip. Planning on being at the next month's. Trying to talk my wife in to going too. Our kids just ended soccer and now their starting softball. It too has games on Saturday so I'm playing it by ear. I'll know more once we have a game schedule. Jason
