What do you pay for your license plate renewal stickers?

Just curious what others are paying for license plate renewal stickers? My last 88' S4 was about $300 bux a year. I'm actually going to do a plate transfer on my newest S4 so I don't have to pay the high sticker price for registering a Porsche. Actually transfering a plate from a 95' Dodge that I had so I should only pay the $10 transfer fee as the sticker is still good on the plate. Honestly after I get the cars registered I don't renew the stickers as there ridiclious and I don't drive the cars that much. Just curious what others are paying for there stickers? I know in Michigan its based on original MSRP.

In Michigan, after 1984 the renewal price is based on a % of MSRP when the car was new. So while my new Mazda cost about $137, my 928 costs $460! :crying: In 8 years, however, I qualify for collector status and then it's only $25 for 10 years.

$75 unless I apply for the collector plate, then it's $150 forever.

It's a really ugly baby blue plate with red letters.
So instead I have a "collector special" registration. All of my cars have the same plate (standard white with red letters) with a different letter at the end. Bottom of each plate says "Vehicle Collector"
Yea, I'm mega-cool.

I spoke to a car dealer and he said its was MSRP and he said it does go down after the first 3-4 years but not by much. So I would venture to guess its 85-90% of the MSRP?? $400 bux eh? WOW! I bet thats a nice renewal bill every year..

There's restrictions on the collector car status in Michigan which I looked into. The lady at the DMV told me the car is strictly used for shows and thats it.

In WA state I think I'm at $50 or so. We had a citizens revolt a few years ago and passed a citizens initiative (can't remember the official name of the proces) and voted for $35 tab renewal costs. The legislature overruled that (wtf?!!!), so we voted on it again, and passed it again. Then the state managed to tack on some extra fees, so now its up to $50 or so for a standard passenger car.

I'm pretty sure we voted on it twice. Or was it that we voted down the public funding for the new sports stadium - twice - but they went ahead and built it anyway....

How are you supposed to get new tires for it? You have to take it to a tire shop now and then, right? ;)

Two years for $165 here, and any transfer of any unexpired portion to another vehicle is $10.

LOL I hear ya! You know how they are down there..

I think we need a revolt like neverlateinmyninetwoeight as these renewal fees are ridiclious.

Amen brotha... You're closest to Lansing. I nominate you to head the charge!

My tags run about $225/yr, reflecting the "cheaper" price of 928s in 1985 vs 1991.

Aren't there mileage/use restrictions when you have a collector tag?

EDIT: I see Dan already mentioned the restrictions. They would make using the 928 as a daily driver "illegal" I guess.

My 1982 used to cost $47. :banghead:

Not that I'm aware of. Besides, when was the last time you reported your mileage to the SOS? I never have.

You got my back?

Honestly I don't even pay them when they require renewal. I haven't paid on my 944 since 01 but since they changed the plates over in Michigan I got to figure something out for that car. :burnout:

That's a nice string of luck. The last 2 times I didn't renew tags promptly, I was pulled over within a week.

I guess you could say that. However its not a daily driver I have a truck for that. If the fees were more reasonable then I would pay them but they're not! I look at it already as being 1k ahead so if I did get pulled over I would pay the fine and be on my merry way! I do pay the renewal fee on my truck which is about $120 bux a year.

Nothing , my wife pays it .... I never see the bill . When we got maried I just put everything in her name. Having been divorced twice I figured it was easier to just give her everything up front :) So much less to fight about later.
