I'll check with my boss. Her mother is in town this weekend. That might get me a pass, "my mother is here, so I don't need you around," or it might get my pass revoked, "my mother is here, how can you think of being so rude as to go and leave us to entertain ourselves?" No telling which one you'll get...

It's early enough that you can do the drive, have some fun, and be back at home by lunch time. Take everyone out for a nice meal, and I'm sure they won't miss you at all!

I --may-- be able to get to this one. I'm on short-trm hiatus from an east-coast project. Friday is a paint-chip repair day. Saturday morning is brush clearance touch up, Saturday afternoon finish the paint chips, then polish/glaze/detail. If I get it all done in time I can be there. And if nothing else gets dropped into the schedule.
-------
Having 1000 928's in Socal is doesn't mean that there are more than a few dozen that are currently driveable -and- within an hour's drive of Calabassus, and out of those it's tough to find folks who don't have family or other obligations on any given day. Not everybody bears the burden of 928 fanaticism to the same level as Keith or Larry or KraigG or Chris or I do. Some have them to drive, others have them to talk about, and more often they have them but don't drive them because the car 'needs something' that's more expensive than driving the Corrola. I enjoy the car, work on it regularly to keep it nice, keep it reliable. I don't "live for the car" as some seem to. The maintenance for me is a kind of therapy most of the time, torture some others. Each person will find their own balance through all of this. For some that means going to every event available. For others like me it means driving it whenever I need to go someplace, staying ahead of the wear-and-breakage curve, and enjoying the company of fellow car enthusiasts in regular but measured dosages.

You're saying Kraig that LAPD isn't getting a big 'ol chunk of Homeland Security dough?
Toys4Tots I can see, but there may be a bit of a "revenue" bias to overcome here.

Kind of like how M4T goes for the kids.
The guy who came up with this idea owns a watch store up in Valencia, and owns a sweet, low mileage 928.

100% of the monies collected goes directly to the family of the two SWAT officers that were killed and injured a couple of months ago. Whether or not you like LAPD, it is all for a good cause
Bob & Rolf, there is a group of P-Car owners that are meeting up in La Crescenta and caravaning over to Pierce College. It might be fun, or you can pick me up on your way over.

If you go back to the beginning of the thread, you can see that none of the funds raised during this event goes to the LAPD. It's for the families of the officers involved in that shooting a month or so ago.
I have a business ethics problem here and the more I read about it the worse it gets.
In my Navy days, if I went to a Navy shop and had a Navy machinist on Navy time cut a part from Navy material for use on my car, that would be illegal. I was a charitable act, but illegal.
Of its $1.2-billion budget, the LAPD spends roughly $24 million on counter-terrorism.
A quick google search will provide more.
What is the LA police union doing for these families?
