You probably do. And the one you have is probbly a lot more reliable that the one you want. Existing one lasted over 20 years including all the abuse and foul language you've shared with it. The one you want would force you to beg it to start, would bleed you dry on costs and maintenance. Hey, they aren't that far apart really....

Anyway, I just did mine to. It was really very easy, dirty, but easy. Even with the stripped threads (thread inserts, one of man's great inventions). However, I had mine rebuilt. Cost about $125, and it looked very literally like new. Been working great ever since.

So far I have found these cars extremely easy, and rewarding, to work on myself. Thank's in a huge way to this forum, and all the great people, help, and advice available here.

Soooo I called the Car Dr to see if I could order the part from 928 Int...Too late
Then he proceded to inform me, the alternator is done, but my car is still stalling!!!
His guess is the fuel pump? or fuel intake?
Im scarred...
any thoughts???

If it drives OK but stalls every once in a while, it's possible it's the pump but unlikely. They usually show signs of fuel starvation under load. Resist the urge to take it to 'just any mechanic'. Get the SD group's recommendation on a competent 928 wrench near you. The alternator episode should leave just a little bad taste with you. Imagine how much fun it is when you ask a non-928 wrench to diagnose a stalling or erratic running issue. You pay them by the hour to diagnose something they aren't familiar with, and they have an incentive to work $lowly.

I'd love to chime in here with a suggestion, but I do all my own work. I know there are a few independent "Porsche" shops in town, but I have no idea about their 928 experience. Hopefully someone local knows and will respond here. I agree with the good Dr. that the fuel pump is unlikely.

Pardon my newbieness..............but if the car fires up, then is stalling could this be something simple like the plug wire from the distributor into the ignition not making the proper contact? Cracked wire? Seems like a obvious visual inspection to me.

Seems like the common issue from all the posts covering the
non-start are:

Relay
Fuel
Spark

Hope you get it sorted out.
