Post Was it the water?

Well, we are actually getting rain in West Texas.
I posted earlier that my O2 sensor warning light started blinking Real Regular.
Sometimes would not reset. Greg recommended 928 Intl's Universal O2 sensor since I could only access the single wire type locally.
I ordered it and a new owners manual.
Cruising thru the rain this afternoon - cheaper than a car wash - the warning light started blinking again. Wouldn't reset... after a couple of minutes - ever observant - I noticed it had a companion light blinking.
Brake fluid level... pulled into a carwash bay wiped Pattycakes down then checked the
brake fluid level which to the naked eye had not changed/dropped at all. I need to flush and bleed the system.
Now I know Mitsubishi has an idiot light sensor system that is incredably sensitive but the one on my wife's Montero XLS is a 2000 not a 1982 . Was the Porsche system similar ... by weight instead of fluid level?
In any case the brakes are still working as advertised - GREAT - and I can't even imagine what S4 or GT/GTS brakes perform like. But the light is still blinking like mad. Could this be a water short?
In an unrelated problem I hit two Wild pigs in Eastern Arizona -slight displacement of the spoiler/air dam, No exterior body paint or sheetmetal damage but the alternator cooling hose got shredded and there is a sensor hanging out of it, still intact.
What is it? Is there a bracket/nozzel/air dam connector for the left front fender end of this cooling hose? All I have now is the end of the hose sitting there. When I get the new hose will I have to drop the alternator to install that end? I've put off buying a new stereo in order to purchase the
manuals but I'm hoping to find a used set for less than the $300 or so the new ones are going for... any help out there? In any case, after my the kidney stone thumping tomorrow I'm scheduled for a gall bladder removal and some back surgery so I guess I'll buy them irregardless of cost just for the reading value while I'm laid up.
Anyone want to trade a set for some lovely, custom, homemade kidney stones and a one owner, near mint condition, gall bladder?

John,
the sensor is the outside temp sensor for the climate control. Mine had a bracket on the wheel well cover that held the hose. You shouldn't have to remove the alternator..just slide the hose over the alternator cover and clamp...hose is expensive though, about $50...hard to go cheap and get away w it since it takes some tight bends and is exposed to damage (as you know).

I've got the manuals on CD (from microfiche) but might be tough reading in bed unless you've got a laptop...lots cheaper than hard copy but, if you've got the bucks to spend, hard copy is the way to go.

Good luck w your surgery(s) and a speedy recovery,
Jim

Try disconnecting the negative battery terminal for a couple minutes to reset the blinking warning light.

I bought a copy of the CD that Jim refers to - it's a sweet setup, definitely worth the cost of a few shekels.

Oh, and start adding some fiber to your diet - hah!

John,
As Jim advised the sensor is the outside temperature probe for the climate control system.

The temperature probe is fitted at right angles into a small steel cylinder which fits into the the sprial reinforced flexible cooling pipe which is led to the alternator. The other end of the steel cylinder, on my S4, fits into a inverted 'U' section of same type piping. This inverted 'U' section is held in place on the forward side of the plastic partition at the front of the left hand side mudguard by a 'm' shaped bracket which fits over the pipe holding it in the 'u' shape.
The open end of the 'U' piping faces down to draw in the outside air that is fed into this space from the air inlet at the front of the car and flows to the alternator cooling it.

I would suggest that the design is to stop water being drawn in with the cooling air and shorting out the alternator.

Hope that this is of assistance.

Thanks all,
I'll still get the books but the CD's have drawn my interest since I first saw the post. Then I remembered I saw a fische in 928 Int'l is this the same transcribed to CD?
I soon as I stop whizzing blood - more like cherry Kool Aid- which means when they pull
-ouch- the plastic stent out of my joy stick/kidney/bladder I'll start looking for the mystery brackets and order the new cooling tube.
Thanks again, time for a 'happy pill' later

John,
yes, the CDs are the microfiche(s) transcribed to CD...same thing, exactly. both for the microfiche version of the shop manual and the various MY parts fiches....send me an email if you need them.

Jim
