Question How much is my 928 worth????

Hey....I have a 1985 Porsche 928 S European Model. Its a 5-Spd, Blue...It has 63,000 on it. Had the engine rebuilt about 2 months ago, and it only has 3,000 miles on that. I had the pistons, cams, rod, and block, and head done. It has 17 inch OZ racing rims ($1300) and perillis all around. Upgraded radio, and upgraded headlamps. Paint is great condition. Im thinking of putting it on Ebay Motors. What do you think id get for it??? Thanks

Mike,

Why would you have the engine rebuilt at 63,000 miles? I think most people in the 928 know would not come close to the car due to the rebuild. These engines don't need to be rebuilt at such a low interval unless there were major problems. A euro s 928 will appeal mainly to the educated 928 crowd who will question the rebuild. Did you break-open the engine to replace leaking seals and then think it was a good time to rebuild the engine? Did the person rebuilding the engine have experience with a 928 rebuild? Did you upgrade to forged pistons, rods, crank, etc. while you were in the engine?
Good point of reference is 15% less than the value of a U.S. model if you were to trade at a dealership. Unless you have increased the performance and looks substantially I wouldn't expect more than $11,000 to $12,000.

Well i blew the engine on the car. So i took it to a performance 928 specialist and he replaced, and fixed everything in it. So theres the reasoning for the rebuild, so now the car is like new. If ANYONE knows of ANYONE who would be interested when i post it on eBay Please let me know. Thanks Guys!

I would be very interested in an '85 Euro S. If the condition were right, I would be willing to pay up to $10k. I would be very interested in the details on the engine rebuild. I have an '80 928S Euro with more than 80k on it, I have raced it, and it is still very healthy.

Did you run the motor out of oil?
Are the synchros cranky on downshifts?
What are the issues with the body, interior?
When were the brakes, shocks, exhaust done?

Please email answers to Stan.Shaw@Excell.Net
Thanks!

Just my two cents worth....

I have seen early 928s on eBayMotors bid up depending on their described condition...Having sold/bought Porsche parts on eBay myself I think the most important element is to advertise your car the right way....Put a lot of photos on eBay....include photos of the interior as well as the outside of the car....most people like to see pictures of what they are bidding on...Also make the description as detailed as possible and you'll be surprised.

You might actually get more than your asking price....Hey the whole world will be watching/bidding on your car!

The only downside is that you might end up with a non-paying bidder who wins the auction. In that case, resubmit it!

Best of luck
