I can see where the sunroof is a pain - it took almost a year for me (actually Rob Budd) to get ours working. It's clunky. But I think the real reason that no-sunroof cars are prized is simply because there are fewer of them.

At 6'6", holy cow, I was drooling.
I tried to give him my contact info in case he ever decided to sell, but he wouldn't hear of it.
Dang it. Nice car though.

No wonder US buyers are desperately looking for these cars. I would quess something like 5% of ROW S4, 3% GT and 2% GTS didn't get one. This means there are maybe 500 S4, 100 GT and 100 non sunroof GTS around.

Erkka the vast majority of US car buyers simply buy a car off the dealers lot very very few actually sit down and order one exactly as they want it to be and WAIT FOR IT. Plus the dealer would do most anything to entice the buyer to select the 928 he had on the showroom floor rather than order another one !! Most USA 928s were loaded up and fitted with automatics. When a prospective 911 buyer learned that there were no automatics they were directed toward the 928... that changed in later years

I know Jim. I was counting ROW cars. Practically all cars which didn't have some specific end customer ready when they were ordered got sunroof. Luckily in many cases ROW cars were build on order. Non sunroof late model is rare in here too but there are still way more than one around even in here while there are under 150 928's in entire country.
