Post HELP - EURO SCCA Classification??

HELP!! I am trying to get into BS class for SCCA Solo II. BUT - I am being told that I have to run in BSP...and - since there are no other BSP (or ASP) cars normally running locally - I end up getting bumped to STREET MOD - OH YEA - I HAVE A REAL CHANCE THERE!!!

Here is what the local director emailed me:
"The rules say that if Porsche (or any make) doesn't sell at least 1000 cars in the USA with the option available it can't go into a stock class. What it boils down to is this. No Euro spec car is legal in any stock class."

Does anybody have any suggestions???

Someone said that they thought that the rules ALSO said - no Porsche can be in Street Mod????

Anyone??? Buehler???

Basically, with a Euro-spec Porsche, you might be stuck in SM2, assuming that classing is available in your area. SM (Street Modified) specifically excludes all Porsches.

Both Stock and Street Prepared classes require that the car be normally sold and delivered through the manufacturer's retail sales outlets in the US.

Also, if your description of your vehicle in your signature is correct, you couldn't run in BS anyway with those wheels unless the '85 928S had 17-inch wheels as a factory option. And I think the S4/GT Brembos would disqualify you as well.

BSP might be a possibility only if you can convince the powers that be that a US-spec 928 could be modified to be substantially identical to your Euro-spec 928 while staying within the Street Prepared rules. That seems a bit questionable.

Your choices would seem to be SM2 if that's available, or a Prepared or Modified class. Good luck figuring it out...

JB -

Thanks for the info! They have me in BSP now. There is no local SM2.

From your description - I guess I should consider myself lucky Im in BSP...stay there ...and just take my lumps on the monthly events, and be satisfied with the BSP yearly points!

By the way - I do NOT run AX with the other tire/wheels. I run the stock wheels in AX.

What gets me, tho...I understand the bumping - it's just that I get "Double Bumped" into SM because there usually arent any ASP cars, either. I have NO CHANCE in SM!

I know that all Porsche's are 'excluded' from SM - BUT - can they be 'BUMPED' into SM? If not - how should a BSP car be bumped if there is no ASP class running?

Maybe you can shed some light on what RTP ratings are??? I found a reference to them on the web, and it looks like I could move to SS before SM, if they are used.

The local director suggested I look around for a co-driver, so there'd be 2 in BSP....Not sure I want to subject my shark to TWICE the stress and wear 'n' tear, tho.

As far as getting double bumped into SM, my condolences. I guess there's not much you can do about that.

And don't get too excited about the possibility of running in SS rather than SM. Here in the DC region, the SS drivers (well, those driving the Corvette Z06) are significantly quicker than the SM drivers. Of course, your region may vary.

@Randy:

I'm not an expert, in fact I just started getting involved. But I've been spending way too much time lately reading the class rules, looking to see what exactly can be tweaked on my car.

Yep- on the SS Z-06's...but around here...the SM class has a couple of HEAVILY mod'd Subaru WRX Turbo's. One is owned by the guy that owns the Sub dealership...he has MAJOR $$$ in this hot little ricer and is turning ~56-57 seconds the Z-06's around 62 and I am around 64-65.

Mark,

I tangled with a WRX turbo on the interstate on day in my supercharged SEC. This one was blue in color and had a red "Monster WRX" sticker on the back window. The exhaust was different and it was much much faster than stock. I was a bit impressed but I bet he was impressed at my big ole SEC too.

Yep Jim...SEC (or 928) vs. WRX on the interstate is ONE thing...

on a tight AX course - it is quite another!

The one that is so hot at the AX belongs to Roger Koby - Koby Subaru. It is SOOOO modified, it is almost impossible to drive (comfortably) on the road. Roger brings it over from Mobile on a flat-bed!
