Has anyone had a problem on a 5-speed where the reverse lights sometimes work and sometimes don't? I've removed the relay jumper and cleaned it up until it shined, as well as the reverse lights fuse. I also checked out the bulbs and their sockets and they are both good. Could the reverse light switch on the transmission be causing this?

Mine was on the 84. Actually, the wires were holding on by a strand under the boot where they attach to the switch. The plastic of the switch itself had also deteriorated, but not as badly as to short, but it easily could have and I should replace it soon anyway.

On the 84, the wire ends are each soldered into their own little cylinderical plug, and each in-turn plug into the switch. I just removed, cleaned and resoldered the same ends onto the newly restripped wires. Good to go.

May wnt to check the ground wires where they connect to the body. If loose or corroded it can cause intermittant electrical problems like yours.

chack the switch on the trans it may have worked itself loose, then follow the wires into the spare tire well, the wires could also be a loose plug
