Default Luisi steering horn button fitting - Updated!!

I bought a brand new Luisi steering (with the porsche horn button) from ebay along with a hub adopter. I had to specify year and model of the car (1989 S4) when making order since they have to send me the correct hub they told me.

I wanted to make sure they sent me the right stuff, reason for my doubt is that although the instructions are very simple to follow I don't see any mechanism for the horn button to get fastened into the hub, from the look of the horn button there are four plastic snap-on like protrudes I would guess they should go fit into something. I dry assembled steering wheel + Horn Button + Large Metal Ring + Hub according to the 3 step instruction but then the horn button will be just loose not tightly attached any thing.

So what is the trick here?
thanks - Chamilka

one more thing: The big Hexagon mounting nut you see after the horn is removed, what size is that?? the 24mm socket does not fit? Thats the largest I have right now.

The Momo button has a spring that fits inside the plastic prongs, as shown here:

The nut is 27mm.

Did you just take that picture for illustration? If so its very nice of you. Well mine does not have any spring... wonder why.
Yes it is 27mm thanks, but how in the world do you make it turn? Its tight as hell? I am afraid I'll break something.

I made that picture a while ago illustrating how to install a Momo steering wheel.

The nut is only supposed to be torqued to 32 ft-lbs. You won't brake anything. I don't like pulling hard against the steering lock, but that's what I did.

I just did the same installation with the MOMO and the four prongs fit "very" tightly into the light metal ring that sits between the steering wheel and the adapter.

I think you indicated that you have that metal ring. The horn button doesn't connect to the steering wheel, it protrudes loosly through it into the ring - at least mine didn't. Did you try the fit into that ring?

Boy, that's poorly stated, but hopefully you get the gist of it. If not, I have another one that I could get images of the relationship.

Rod , you are right the prongs supposed to go in between ring according to the digram came with it, but there is absolutely no way I could fit the chubby prongs through that gap, the gap is little bigger than a hair. But let me try again.

One more question, I connected the electrical wire coming from the Hub to the horn, but the horn does not work. This horn button has two connectors (male and female connectors) unlike the MOMO picture shown by Bill.

Before you break something, you might want to contact your seller, but it is a "force fit" on mine, so the prongs bend inward and slip inside the ring. Again, I'd contact your seller and make sure what you have before you break it.

There are two models of this horn mechanism. One has an additional wire that goes from the horn button to the light metal piece and grounds the horn. The other type is internally grounded so you don't need the second wire. The MOMO adapter comes with two different rings depending upon which of the two horn buttons you get. If you were testing it without it contacting the hub, it wouldn't work since it isn't grounded.

I put mine together, the horn button through the steering wheel, into the ring, before I bolted it on to the hub. After it was all assembled, just make sure the holes in both the steering wheel and the ring line up and it's easy sailing from then on.

I sent a note to the seller. The horn button goes in loosely through the steering wheel and the metal ring ..so can not force fit. The Metal ring was not in a package when it came it is possible they sent me the wrong components, lets see. I wanted to fix tonight and drive it to work tomorrow oh well, I am too tired to put the old wheel back.

I want to thank all for your very much for your support.

As Rod described there are two types. Mine did not have a ground wire spade, but rather had a brass protrusion on the outer edge that grounded against the metal center of the wheel.

If the seller sold the wheel and horn button as a package, he should be able to help you.

I have good news and bad news. Good news is that I am not crazy or mentally challenged that I was not able to figure out something this easy.
Bad new is I’ll have to return the Wheel. Turns out that the wheel, the Hub, and the Metal Ring are made by Luisi, but the Porsche horn button is made by some other company. The seller puts them together and sells them as Luisi wheel with Porsche horn button and adapter.

So they know jolly well that the horn button is not going to fit per the instructions comes from Luisi since the instruction is meant for a wheel with Luisi horn button. But they figured that typical Porsche owner is very mechanically smart and creative person who would improvise somehow to make it fit. Problem is that I am not what you call a typical Porsche owner. The seller’s exact words were I know 100s of Porsche owners who would use silicon, tape or some other ways like bending to fit the horn button somehow.
Hell yes I would too … if I knew these part were designed not to work, I surly would have put glue or something.
Problem is not just the horn, the grounding mechanism also have to be worked around. So I am sending it back and may be buy a set that I know had worked for you all.

So please give me some ideas what set (wheel + Porsche horn button + adapter) should I buy that require only installation (no cutting, bending, welding, spiting, screaming etc).
I am looking for a small wheel (less than 13 inches), black color, good chubby grip, nice looking (less Bling factor ) and price not more than $175 for the set.

Here is the Luisi wheel I bought: This wheel fit the hand like a glove, very good construction.

MOMO makes what appears to be exactly the same wheel, the CORSE. They are now discontinued and you can get them for about $130, + adapter, but not a Porsche horn button. That will cost another $45.00 or so.

Do a google search and you'll find them.

I can't answer that one. MOMO is a well known industry standard and I would assume that other manufacturers acknowledge that, but you need to check with them to verify compatability.
