Intake R&R - Before and After
Just thought I'd throw some pics up of the before and after. It was a big job, but I feel better knowing all the rubber is replaced and the fuel lines. Thanks Roger for getting all the parts to me in time and in good order! Thanks Brett and Kyle for all your help (and the Shark Beer compliments of Kyle). Brett came in Friday night and stayed until this mornng to help me get this job done and he is a grand master (in my book) of things mechanical
Mike and Bill were of great help too, and lots of nice sharks in the driveway is never a bad thing!
The car fired right up around 8:30 last night. It is running very rough though, and we think it may be an injector, so a few more demons to chase (the injector rails were ridiculous to put back together - clearance is non-existant - you guys with pre and post 85-86's don't know how easy you have it under there!)
Anyway, enjoy the pics. I learned much from this job, but never would have attempted it without Renny!

Linderpat thats a nice looking underhood.I like the color of your car i had a similar 79 that color.
What a hardy group of guys working outside in the snow, and then drinking beer to top it off
My only suggestions after getting the injectors working replace the coolant tank and cap also the washer fill tube (remove the metal collars in the washer tank and the new fill tube) Use some simple green on the dip stick handle it makes it look like new, like your oil fill cap looks.
See if you can get a new cowl panel it looks like the one you have will hit on the W/Wiper linkage,IE its not secured to the underside of the cowl by the little fingers. Goodluck on your project

Very nice work! My intake looks like the 'before' pics except for the new FI lines. I love that intake color, really jumps out!
Congrats!

That beautiful light green one is Kyle's (Shark Attack), and the S4 is Brett's Rosie. Bill had his S4 there too. We are trying to rival the Texas and Detriot folks with our gtg's and tech sessions...Rog - we'll get you up so you can experience that white stuff first hand

Woo hooo! – she runs like a dream!
Figured it out tonite and fixed it – one injector had become unplugged (good call Brett), and the vacuum that we left open is now closed. Pulled the side plenums and inspected everything and quickly found the unplugged injector. Happened when putting on the passenger side rail. Very little clearance with the injector harness there.
Anyway, plugged it back in, plugged the vacuum leak from the a/c kickdown, polished the cross-brace, cleaned the oil dip stick, reassembled it all, wiped it all down (I wanted it to look good even if it ran like crap ), fired it up and away I went. Out to the highway, and she ran like a new car. Also, rock steady idle at around 750 rpm. There is a slight hesitation in the lower end power band, which is likely a timing issue from running on bad vacuum for so many years (the main vacuum from the brain was disconnected.) I’ll have my mechanic check that out and perform a vacuum diagnosis to make sure it’s all connected properly. Now I can focus on the shocks and getting it ready for SITM!
PS - I don't want to do anymore 85-86 intake R&R's!!
