Rear Seat Back Release
Hi;
Just bought a "project" '83 US model, and am new to this forum, so I'll have LOTS of questions over time, but here is probably an easy one to get me started.
The seatback releases don't seem to budge, and of course, I can't fold down the rear seats. Is there some way to "free-up" the release mechanism??
Thanks, Barry

Not sure if this will help, but I've noticed that my seat release levers don't work unless there's no tension on the seat. If my passenger seat has something pushing against it from behind, that pressure needs to be removed before the release will move freely. Check to see if anything is putting its weight on your back seats.

Hi Dave;
I appreciate the thought, but I've tried pushing on the seatbacks, pulling on them, doing nothing with them, little pressure, lots of pressure, no pressure, etc......
I'm sure the release linkage is probably frozen, but I'm just a little leary of squirting oil into my seats.
Thanks for trying.

I've got the opposite problem with one of mine! One of the back seats won't lock in the upright position. Haven't spent much time looking into it, though.
On a related note...is there any way to get the seat **** off without cracking it? I've got one **** (on drivers seat) that was put on before the trim ring (by PO, of course). Can you get the **** off without cracking?

sorted my jammed seat back this w/e. took about 5 minutes.
the catch is basically a hook that catches over the top of a peg sticking out from the side of the car. the hook is lifted by the finger catch on the seat back side via a wire in the seat.
the hook part on my seat had seized onto its pivot. i lifted the hook manually with a small pry bar - thus releasing the seat. if you look carefully down the side of the side of the seat, from the rear you will see how it works. i then wobbled the catch back and forth with a good dose of WD40 on the pivot. hey presto - working catch.
give it a go!

The seat **** (PN 911 521 817 00) is a $2 part. The metal clip can be bought for $1 or you can salvage the old one from the broken ****. I think the last **** I bought came with a clip.

For what it is worth-
This is a subject that I have wondered about for a while. Whenever I go to move my seatbacks, I have to apply a little pressure. This is unusual in an automobile.
Porsches are largely hand-built cars; This is why our engines run so well. It is likely that this hand built nature comes into play here- since these are not meant for the general audience, and in general are built more for sporting use rather than delivering kids to their schools a la minivan, it is likely that this function was not the most important during design and development and as such our seats need gentle pressure.
Just pull back a little bit....
Normy!

Sorry it took so long to get back here, sometimes work really puts a "crimp" on what I "want" to do......
Anyway, "JohnB" takes the prize!!!
You nailed the solution, sir!!
The "hooks" had just rusted due to inactivity, and once I broke them free with a pry-bar, and worked them a bit with WD-40, and they work like a champ.
Thank you sir!!
Only about 60 more "mini-projects" to go.... :-)
