Post Replace Camshaft Sprockets ??

Doing the timing belt change and these are well shiny, just wondered what the consensus was.

Thanks

Oil pump drive looks fine, just the camshafts look like this.

If those were on my personal car, I wouldn't replace them.

Good shot of the TDC and the 45 deg alignment marks.

Ok Wally, I'll bit!

I would and did replace mine as they showed the same wear. I looked close at Chris's pictures and could see (top pic, left hand cam) that the crest wear was quite more than what I would be willing to pass on.

Wally, will you shed a bit more light on your opinion?

Cheers

The wear appears to be in the 0.010" - 0.015" range. The wear will be roughly even over the shape of the sprocket.

I have seen engines running with much, much more wear than this.

I simply don't think that the amount of wear shown on these sprockets is bad enough to justify replacement. As Ed likes to say, YMMV.

I can see your point Wally, however take a close look at the top picture (left cam set). If you look at the right of the picture you can clearly see that the wear is not even. It starts to taper away from the front of the sprocket.

One nice thing about forums is a person is able to get a wide range of opinions on just about anything.

Cheers
