Post Any other Weissachs out there?

Hello! I just bought an 82 928 Weissach! I love it! I do not think I have seen a nicer 928 from that age. It is a 5 speed, 78,000 miles. Not a scratch on it, all the leather looks like it just got out of the factory. I have every paper on it. From the original window sticker, to the plaque with the certified car number on it. I even have the letters and brochure photos the dealership sent to the original owner about his interest of special ordering it. Well, I am very excited about it, and want to know if there are any other people that have/know about the Weissach.

Congrats!!!

You'll find comfort knowing that John Struthers (custodian of Pattycakes) is also a Weissach owner.

Sounds awsome! might give Pattycakes's leather a run for her money? Fellow Weissach owner here. I'd love to see pics of that plaque if you have any.

If you have the, ever so rare, Porsche, three piece, matching leather luggage set...
Jessa and I will race out there encased in our Porsche Logo'd ski masks to relieve you of such a daunting responsibility. Jessa? I want the two smaller pieces!
Welcome to one of the Clubs within the Club.
They are gorgeous cars... We don't have the HP of the Euro's, Clubs, later models, S-4's, GT' & GTS's . They seem to have all the styling qeues of the S-2 - just a year early -.
Still, they are powerful and fast enough to keep you happy. Unfortunately, the Weissach is just so damned pretty -and rare with only 205 being made -
that it is considered criminal to hack speaker holes anywhere in the leather. If I find a hood scoop on yours I'll track you down and....
Seriously, while they are fairly rare - did you get yours around Illinois or out on the West Coast?- I don't know if they hit collectors status - mine turned 20 this month - yet, or are worth anything as an investment. In my case, I fell in love with the sHARKs from the day I saw one in a magazine. I do want a more powerful 86 1/2, or S-4, though I really like our S-2 body/trim style. My intent is not to let Pattycakes - name saked for my mom - go when I purchase a more aggresive sHARk.
I would like to start a directory of Weissach owners both Auto and 5 spd. For the sake of paranoia E-mail address only, as owners meet each other they can exchange address when they reach that comfort level.
Our beaut's are no harder or easier to work on than other similar models so the Rennlist is a great place to LEARN.
Again, Welcome to SHARK WORLD, get the manuals, do not push the odometer clear button while moving! Disconnect battery while charging, don't jump, or weld on car till you learn a bit. The door pockets will accomodate any 9mm to Desert Eagle large bore auto's/larger frame revolvers with the exception of perhaps the 'Dirty Harry', long barrel, Model 29 .44mag -for dispatching those sub human door dinger types.
If you have anything you need to ask and don't want to use the forum use my Email address or the Rennlist Private mail system.
Enjoy, wax regularly, keep her rolling, keep her between the lines on the road, and the shiny side up.
Later

That is the only thing I do not have...the luggage. I do not know where they went. I bet very few people have them. I have a huge glossy photo of the luggage that came with the cars brochure. I will take some pis of the plaque and everything and put them on here sometime. I am glad to see other Weissachs around. I wo nder how many there are in the US?

Ian:

Weissach models in perfect condition have become extremely rare - as far as I know there were about 255 made, and many of them suffered the same fate as so many other 928s: neglect.

I do believe, a perfect Weissach will one day be a desirable 928 collectible, and probably one of the few 928 models that has a potential to appreciate somewhat. Maybe not as much as the '89GT and '95 GTS, but still...

Please do us the favor and keep it in such great condition. Maybe some day we will get to admire it!

Good luck!

darn, and I had just dug out that ski mask!
I was talking to my mechanic - the same one the original owner went to from the start - about the luggage thing. According to him, the luggage was an option accessory, one the original owner (also named John) never had.

Forget the exact date this happens, but the offical age required for collector/classic car status is due to increase in the next few years (damn well built cars living longer). So, our cars will become official classics, then lose that status for a couple years, then finally be classics again; but they're always golden!

I don't have anything recent scanned. George and Rob took pictures at Sharks in the Park II (this past May):

<a href="http://www.geocities.com/ipmsmtdiablo.geo/sitp/sitp2.html" target="_blank">Rob's page</a>

<a href="http://sis125.berkeley.edu/928/shark-park-0502.html" target="_blank">George's write-up</a>

There's a couple of my backing the car in on George's gallery, pic # 36 to 40.

Since these were taken I've repaired the front grill, and replaced the missing front spoiler and ducting - what a PITA that was! Going to take some more pictures soonish.

Dennis:

Since none of us (to my knowledge) has ever actually seen the Weissach luggage set, could you provide us with a description of what pieces it included (sizes?), and maybe provide a picture?

There are 3 pieces. One is a tall bag, I think for suites and dresses, ect. Then there are 2 suite cases. One is larger and the other is smaller. What is awsome about them is that they are from the exact leather and color that is on the doors and dash. I have a original pic of the cases, and another of the interior of the car. They were both about 8.5"x11" photos that showed a preview before it came here. I do not have my camera or scanner on me right now. I will a week from friday. I will post alot of stuff then. Sound good? You will love it. I will show you the actual window sticker that came on my car. It was about $48,000 in 1982! Holy Cow!
