Question fuses and fuse panel

Greetings,

Three questions:

What year did Porsche switch over from the ceramic type fuses to the plug in type?

Is is possible to change the entire panel from the older, ceramic style, to the newer design?

Is this:
a. worth doing?
b. a big hassle?

thanks in advance, <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

If you do decide to trade over, I have a complete fuse panel and complete wire harness as well from an '85 automatic donor shark.

Hi there!

I'll tell ya what..if you decide to keep the old-style fuse panel, make sure you take all of those ceramic fuses out and SMASH THEM WITH A HAMMER!!
I spent several days trying to figure out why my driver's side headlight wasn't working, testing relays, etc. Decided to replace the fuse (which tested GOOD!) with one of the new glass versions- and voila! That was it! Bought enough of the glass ones to replace everything twice, and haven't looked back.
Man, was that a dumb one!

Eric,
Thank you for the feedback. How did you know that is exactly what I would like to do.

But can't get any response to my questions about how tough it is to change.

I thought of doing this switch on my 84 euro. put after looking in to it what a pain!!
Each year the fuse configuration in different, makeing a straight change over impossible.
so I went with a good cleaning of all contacts and went to the glass fuses. No problem there since.

Hope that helps.

Does anyone have any part #'s? Are these exact replacements? Can I get them at a local parts store?

Thanks for your help!

Go to "Attention New (and not so new) 928 Owners" at the top of the list, scroll down about 10 posts (86-).

If you have the wire diagrams for your MY 928 and are handy with wiring doing a swap would not be impossable but slow and painful.

If you do not wish to subject yourself to this punishment do as goldknight mentioned above.

Cheers

I like the old style fuses.....have had them in both my cars for years with no problems whatsoever. In my opinion, they are very easy to detect a blown fuse, since you can actually see the element. On a trip to Switzerland a few years back, I found some of them at a local grocery store and bought 4 packages.
