Default short shift slop

I pulled into my parking spot this morning only to realize I couldn't move the shifter far enough left to get to the R-1 plane. No reverse or first...going to make it tough to back out this afternoon. I just went out to the car and pulled the ****/boot off to look inside and it looks like a big part of my problem is slop in the short shift lever. With the **** off I can move the lever over enough to get reverse (I can get home, whew), but there is a LOT of movement at the lower pin. I can literally move the lever side to side more than an inch before it starts to turn the rear shift rod. Basically it looks like the hole in the lever is a lot bigger than the pin. Is there a bushing that I'm missing?

On another note, I shouldn't have to move the lever that far to the left in the first place. Looks like I either need to adjust the rear coupler a spline or two, or replace it.

Aside from the 4 bushings in the lever arm, there's always the possibilty of the clip coming off and the lever sliding upon the 'pins'. That spring really pushes hard on the clip.

If you have a short shifter in place you probably do not have the spring. You do need the 4 bushing though.

I sounds like you need some work on the rear coupler. I had the same problem. Changed out the rear coupler. You can just change the bushings in the coupler and save some money. After fixing the rear coupler you can readjust the shift position.

Good Luck.

Thanks Jim, I just assumed it was splined. I have the 928intl short shift lever, so no springs...no bushings either, which explains a lot about my shifting problems. I'm not sure why they aren't there, but they are long gone now. Do you sell just the bushings?

Yes we sell nearly everything less than $8 for a set of 4 bushings...
