Default Broken Parts...Can you guess?

I was cleaning out the oil pan yesterday for engine reassembly. I found a piece of what looked to be a broken ring of some sort...then I found another. I was wondering what they were and then it dawned on me.

So anyone of you engine guys want to take a guess as to what these pieces are and how they got in the oil pan? (this should be interesting)

This hint will probably give it away, but it is from the same piece...the right one is really the give away.

Since there is no scale to go by for size, at first I thought they were shiny piston pin retaining clips, but seeing the taper I'd say pieces of the oil pressure relief spring.
What do I win??

Hammer, nice guess, but no. However, the diameter of the pieces are 25mm OD and they are approximately 2-3mm thick.

BTW, I thought the same exact think that they were the wrist pin retainers...thank God they're not!

I've seen valve springs get in an oil pan, but never from an engine that could be reassembled.

See it's just another testament as to how strong and resilient the 928 engine is! I wonder if it had Amsoil in it?

the RH piece looks 6 sided; hexagonal?

I'd guess the threaded part of the oil filter
