Post Under cover in Texas (Pic’s)

After receiving these Photos’s from Oscar in Austin, TX of his 1988 928 my eye’s opened wide and my chin almost hit the ground. Thinking to myself, Oscar has just done something that many said couldn’t be done to the magnesium intake and cam cover.

Thanks for sharing Oscar!

Thanks for posting the pics for me Max. All in all, it was relatively pain free. It started with a simple project which quickly went out of control. The pieces went out to a local polisher after I started experimenting with polishing a small area on each piece and realized that polishing these things might be doable. The polisher did take about 4 weeks to turn the pieces, this allowed me to do quite a bit of detail work to other engine components. It's hard to tell from the pictures but the black paint is actually a wrinkle finish. All the hardware used is SST button heads. I went ahead and replaced all the gaskets and orings just to make sure I didn't have any oil leaks later. The injectors went out for cleaning & balancing and once everything was back together, she started right up. I did get some very good tips from the guys in Dallas as far as installation of the injectors and fuel rails as well as pressure testing the fuel system for leaks. Luckly, everything went well and there were no leaks or major mistakes. We'll see how long the finish keeps before oxidation sets in. It's going to be a little higher maintenance than a powder coated finish but it looks different.

Looks awesome! He definately has one of the nicest S4's I have seen, and I'm sure we'll get to take a closer look at the 9/28 gathering.

Very Clean! Very Nice!

Keeping it polished can be a pain, however...

I'll tend to agree with Davis, it may be higher maintenance to keep the finish especially since there is no coating over the metal. Mother's polish seems to work pretty good though.

Oscar,

I like it. I also noticed your intake tubes, where'd you get/make those?

I was waiting for this one...Good eye!
Don't tell anyone but they are not Porsche OEM. They are intake tubes for a 1989 Mercedes Benz 560SL....if I recall correctly. I have the MB part number if you want it. The great thing is they are about 6 bucks a piece at the MB dealer and they don't have that restriction/venturi/whatever in the middle.

Actually more like 350 bucks for the polishing of the intake and cam covers + my labor and gaskets.

Holy expletive, Batman! And it's all real, no chrome funny stuff.
Just thought of something- Nevrdull might be a good way to keep it looking great.
