Random 928 video thread
Well I searched, and was surprised not to find a thread dedicated to videos.
To copy from the 928 random picture thread, rule is you have to post a video :) It doesn't need to be your own.. just entertaining and it must have a 928 in the clip. And now, in honor of the owner of the owner of "that other thread", here's the first link :icon107: (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2no_8-Bns6s) (no, not mine, but the steering wheel is on the Right side :) ) |

Ha! The "Ass Video" is shot in Newquay, Cornwall UK. I go there on holiday surfing every year! Haven't seen that nice S4 there yet however! :) Here's mine:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2DErolAcMo A video of my 83 S I did when I sold it last year. Quite boring but she sounds nice :) |
watching these videos, one thing comes to mind first. I love the sound of a 928 starting up.. Gets my blood pumping...
|
As Andrew would say, "post a video".

Hennessey C7 Corvette Runs 200 MPH on Texas Toll Road - YouTube Kind of reminds me of this one from years ago: Devek Porsche 928 Stroker ORR high speed pass - YouTube I will say the Vette looks really nice in White. Wow.! On a 928 video note. I got a GoPro for my birthday last week and found that the included "hat brim" mount works great when you slide it onto the sunroof deflector. You get the usual wind noise but it is a secure enough mount to use and stable enough to produce a decent video.. |

Make sure the glass or body is clean and after you put it on, you couldn't pull that off if you wanted too!
I was flying along at about 80 in the video and the camera was solid as a rock both on the rear hatch and side of the car. |

Porsche 928 Hampton Downs - YouTube watch the hands, especially in the wet!! 9 and 3 and don't move them! also , get the car into a lower gear on approach to the turns, it acts like abs rear brakes on the decel, and it gives you more control out of the turns. the RPM cant run away, on exit by being in too tall of a gear and cause a spin or big slide on the exits. higher rpm is better on exit for much more control and less chance of a break-away slide . |

PCA CCS (Car Control School)
A few comments on the above posts...
I live just a few miles from that new toll road where the white vette ran and it is a very fun stretch of road. The cars are from Hennessey which is an amazing company west of Houston that makes crazy fast cars, and the state lets them run them on the new roads before they open up, supposedly to "test" the EZtag systems. They recently built the Venom GT which does 270 mph. It's worth taking a look around their web site. Got my GoPro suction mount off eBay for $13 free shipping a few days go. I'm really looking forward to using it in Marble Falls in a few weeks. It seems to be excellent quality. http://www.ebay.com/itm/291266285242?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Here's a video of my son and I at the PCA car control school. It was an awesome all day event. I learned a lot, and had fun driving my 86.5 hard for the first time in over a decade. My son will never forget the experience and the instructors really gave him a lot of attention. He's been driving his BMW for just a few months. Unfortunately there was some operator error with the GoPro, so no in car video. Link |

Just another example of lessons learned from watching your own video- I made the effort to avoid it in later sessions....

^^^^^^
Victorian racer Ian Raper laps Mount Panorama at Bathurst in the DriveBathurst.com event, November 2010. Ian's car is a 1979 928, with a later model 5-litre bottom end, 4.7 heads, 4 x 55DCOE Webers, dry sump, solid lifters, standard 5-speed and diff ratios, on slicks of course. You will hear the clutch is slipping a bit and Ian, despite that, is lapping in around 2:34 or so. What a nice club-racer car. |

Nice video of the restoration of the Risky Business 928
|
While I try to not be the "remember the good old days" guy, this boring video from 1988 is exciting today especially if you've driven these roads in CA and just look at all the cool cars. Fast forward to the 8 minute mark to see some great 928 footage:
|
Bad alternator - now being replaced.

give hime credit...nice car...
but the price... |
Testing new ignition tune - knock detection
Playing with some adaptive EZK tuning Porken is developing. I have an LED connected to the diagnostic port on my S4. You can see the occasional knock in the revs as the ignition system adjusts spark advance at various rpms
|
Jason Cammisa who I know only as an automotive journalist talks about how much he dislikes 928s(discussion starts at 32:30). But what I found really interesting is that a lot of his dislike spawned from Mike Musto bringing his 86.5 to him to work on. He mentions another guy that worked on the car with him but it is clear they had never worked on one before. He mentioned how Mike was getting frustrated with how long they were taking to fix it. I'm very surprised Mike didn't have his 928 sent to Greg or some other 928 specialist but instead had Cammisa work on it.

Try this - myself on a Rally Stage in the very South of Ireland (Near Killarney) - slightly unusual in that we catch and pass a 911. Since we start 30 secs apart , this is not that common. See this really great documentary on Formula 1 in the mid 80:s and some cool 928 content in it.

We got together with Jay Read (youtube and 928 guy) last week and made a 928 video about press cars and the press launch. Jay was very professional and an absolute blast to collaborate with, we're already talking about the "next" 928 video we'll do. Just check out his Youtube trailer, I smile everytime I watch it:
https://www.youtube.com/@JAYREAD We tried to make the video informative with the goal being to compile a lot of nerdy details about the launch and the cars to a general 928 enthusiast audience. There were minimal retakes so my delivery is not as polished as I'd like it to be! Makes me appreciate the skills of people in front of cameras every day. |
That was a freaking awesome video!! Thanks for getting that done and sharing with all of us. Make me want to get back after number 11 and get it done.

As someone who’s been looking to buy an early OB car for a while now, this is all a dream to see (along with @olmann ’s and @Rob Edwards ’s amazing cars). hope to see some of your early 928s in person on CT roads or meetups! |
Also a nice one:
