Front pulley removal ???
 

Hi all,
My cars PO put the front pulley on backwards :mad:
I've undone the 27mm bolt but now I'm left with the v-belt pulley for the a/c and the big vibration damper behing it. They refuse to come off. I don't want to use a big puller for fear of damaging the vibration damper so I'm wondering if anyone has overcome this problem before and got the pulleys off the crank in some special smart way ?

rubber mallet.
lots of penetrating oil.
lots of patience.
once they start to wiggle you should be able to walk them off slowly. best not to use a puller.

Linus - Tom is correct. However, my pully still would not come off. I ended up using a gear puller verrrrrrry carrrrrrrrfully to get it off. Here is how I used the puller. I put the crank bolt back into the front of the crank and put the gear puller in place so that it was SNUG only. I then tapped on the gear puller bolt with a small hammer, snugged it some more, tapped on the puller bolt, snugged it some more etc.... The idea is to let the impact of the hammer do the work while the puller is used to transfer the impact to the vibration damper. Again, be very careful not to tighten the puller too much. This worked for me hope this helps!

Tom is correct, dont use a puller if you can help it. Paul is also correct,"very carefully". Use the smallest 7 in. puller you can find, otherwise you may have to pull the radiator for clearance.

Good point Anthony, I had both my radiator and A/C condenser removed when I removed my vibration damper. There will be considerably less room for a puller and a hammer with the radiator installed.

Thanks for all the advice. My radiator is already out due to oil cooler leak.
I got the pulleys off today - used a hot air paint stripper to heat up the a/c pulley just to the point where I could not touch it, then used a gentle tapping on the crank bolt while prying the pulley with a big screwdriver. It fell of with a clang and a smile from me ! Turned out the vibration damper came off without use of any force.
Snapped the damn idler wheel off the waterpump though trying to get it off - drat. Got a new waterpump now have to get an idler for it. Oh well, I'll be back on the road eventually. Also found the belt tensioner in a bad state with no oil and rubber boot falling to bits. Luckily all OK inside.
Unbelievable oily muck came out from behind the waterpump when I pulled it off - more of that coffee and cream stuff, it's everywhere. I have to say; damn that stupid oil in radiator design !!
