Detroit Gathering-----UPDATE
Here's the scoop:
Gregg (87 S4), Dozman (85 S), me (85 S), Dennis (82 Weissach WITH luggage) and Stan (84 euro) will all be gathering on Labor Day (monday). All of us are from the same area so it would be silly to drive all the way to Kensington Park especially since no one from that side of the area has responded that they'll be coming.
We should pick a time.....say 12:00? Open to suggestions on this.
If anyone else is interested, let us know. Otherwise we'll be picking a spot in Oakland County to get together.
This will be a family picnic....I've got 4yr, 2yr and 4 mos kids if anyone's curious whether their kids will be kept busy.
Dennis offered this morning to even host the event at his place (Royal Oak). If a lot more people respond, we can easily move it to a huge park down the street.
It probably ought to be a pot-luck deal where everyone brings a dish to pass around...that way no one gets stuck with catering the affair.
Anyone else interested?
(Andrew Olson....where are ya?)

Dave,
Do we have a set place to go to? I have an interested party (That was not aware of Rennlist, She is now! ) with a 928 that needs directions. She may or may not come, but directions would help.

Well, it looks like we're not getting a huge response from the West-siders so we should pick a spot. Like I mentioned, Dennis offered to have the thing at his house and it seems that we probably won't be too crowded.
I don't want to make the commitment on his behalf, so I'll wait for Dennis to respond.
If he's not up for it at his house, I'll take a spin around the neighborhood and find a big park here with appropriate amenities for us to picnic.
Either way, assume the location will be Royal Oak.
A new friend with a 928?? Tell us more! <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" />

HERE ARE THE PLANS:
We will all meet at the park in Royal Oak that is at the corner of Lincoln (10.5 mile) and Campbell @ 12:00 on Monday.
Easiest way to get there is to use the I-75 exit for 11 Mile Road (it's just north of the I-696 exchange). Go west on 11 Mile (left) until the first main intersection you reach after the bridge....that will be Campbell. Take Campbell south (left) for 1/2 mile. It'll be on your right. You can't miss it.
To make things easy, everyone should bring their own beverages. I'll figure it out between Dennis and I about getting burgers and hot dogs if everyone else will kick in a few bucks when they arrive. If you want chips or whatever, bring it. Other than that, bringing a side dish to pass around can be voluntary. There's a small grocery store kitty-corner from the park if we need more stuff.
EVERYONE IS WELCOME. The park has a play structure for the kiddies and a picnic pavilion. We can put our cars on the side streets around the park...there should be plenty of room.
I'm going to check to see if my buddies who have a 911 and a Beck Spyder (Porsche 550 replica want to attend to)....the more the merrier!
West-siders....c'mon over if you can! <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> <img src="graemlins/drink.gif" border="0" alt="[cherrsagai]" />

That sounds good I will forward the directions etc.. to a few others. Looks like a nice relaxing day. Maybe the rain will hold off.
Has anyone made plans to what dishes to make, so that we all don't end up bringing 15 baked bean dishes. That definitely would not be a good way to share the drive home with the family.

John:
Not to micro-manage this too much, but I suppose we can preclude the possibility of duplicate dishes with posts here. If you want to bring baked-beans, I guarantee I won't!
MORE ATTENDEES:
Just spoke with my buddy who's got the 550. He's interested in coming and is going to ask his pal who has ANOTHER 550. If everyone shows up as planned, this could be a Kodak moment.

Hey guys, does this park have a gathering spot for our cars? Something like a central parking lot? Not a hugh deal, but it would be cool to park near the tables etc, so we can check out each others cars and still be social with the familes.

I'm not sure it has a parking lot, but the streets that line it (other than Campbell and Lincoln) are easy to park on. I'll check tonight again to see if it has a lot. Since local schools use it for football practice, I imagine it has a lot. We alway walk there, so I've never looked for one!
EDIT:
Just called the wife. She reminded me that there's a huge community center across the street from the park with a big parking lot. I hadn't thought of it because its grand opening is next week....but the construction is complete.

Another update:
My wife, being the beautiful woman she is, brought to my attention a hosting faux-pas.....there isn't a need to contribute cash, especially if you're bringing a dish to pass around too.
(sorry for dominating this thread so much)

Hey all! <img src="graemlins/xyxwave.gif" border="0" alt="[bigbye]" />
Been on vaca in Chi-town with the wife and kids. I'll try and make it, but cannot promise anything yet. We're off to Ohio to visit friends tomorrow. If we have lots of fun, we may stay into Monday. Otherwise, I'll be there!

Not sure how long we'll be there. I may stick around longer if others do. This group is planning on getting together on a somewhat regular basis, so feel free to join us. I live in the area so you're free to swing by if you want. My cell is 248.709.3586 I'll keep it on in case you call.
By the way, I think the 550 Spyder will be making its appearance at the picnic. Sweet ride.
