Short each cylinder one at a time with the engine running. DO NOT pull the plug wires off the caps or the plug to do this test, you can fry your computer (brain).
Get an automotive test light. It looks like an ice pick with a wire and alligator clip at one end. Attach the alligator clip to a ground cable in the engine compartment.
Press the test light pick end into each plug wire boot at the cap, there by shorting the cylinder. If you have a rod knock, the knock would be less noticeable (sound wise). You may have to rev the engine slightly. Don’t run this motor anymore then you have to until you find out what’s making the noise.
