That is the problem..."arguable" the adjuster has little interest in debating especially with an unisured motorist . But you never know I have seen some people get rather high settlements for their 928s .

I guess every 928 owner should enter at least one car show, take lots of photo's and make up a nice professional looking binder. "Show Cars" always get a little more respect from adjusters.

Bill most do NOT offer Kelly Blue Book but 20-25 % less is more the norm. Please note that nothing I am saying has anything to do with what the car is worth only the typical "logic" being used by insurance companies to "settle" claims. The Manheim Market Report from wholesale auctions estimates wholesale at about $9,000 Retail at about $11,000 based on recent sales at auction.... point is it is hard to establish value hard to know what to compare it too. The Risky B 928 on E-bay had an appraisal of what $35,000 and sold for 1/3 of that.

Candleman you can use my car as a reference. You can find it advertised here and on Chucks Registry, 49K miles, good to excellent condition and most mechanicals are up to date. I've priced it at $19,900.

Good luck with the Insurance Company and finding a nice replacement

Jim - whether or not the driver had personal insurance coverage is irrelevant if he was working when he wrecked into Candleman's car - the company's insurance carrier is all that matters. And, if he wasn't working, then the company's insurance company is irrelevant, and they won't tender any offer at all if thety have no liability.

also, whether or not Candleman is insured is also irrelevant - so long as the comapny's insurance carrier is in the picture

IMO, it doesnt matter what people are asking for the car but more what the cars are selling for. You could find ads all day long for people wanting 20K for their cars... but did they get that? You need to really do some research and find out what the cars are selling for, not what people are asking for them.

IMO I have seen more people get good money for their 928 from the insurance company. Sit back, chill out and wait for a number. gather every receipt you have showing what you spent on the car in the last year.

Whatever you do remember to BE NICE..... they are much more afraid of a smiling face that a guy screaming Im going to sue you. That smiling face is saying, im going to stick it right up you ***.... Take as many notes as you can so the guy can not round house you.

But whatever..... you do not even have a number yet,, sit back have a beer and wait for a number. Then freak if need be. Actually you have put very little in this converstation maybe thats what you are doing?

x10 I was hit by a drunk in the 80's Treated and was OK for a few years but since then I've had acute back pain, sometimes disabling, at the original injury location. I have not been afflicted this past year but once.. but really.. I'd wished I'd not signed off so quickly. The haste of youth and a nice cash settlement. They had *my* number.

Sorry to hear about the crash. Glad the injuries are not worse. 35 MPH crash might sound 'slow' but there are still a lot of nasty things happening.

I don't know what the car looks like but unless it's totally cosmetic (how it could be at that speed seems impossible) it'd get it totaled out and replaced.

These things are not Hondas.. they are Porsches and on crash is enough to devalue the car tremendously. In the *least* also get diminished value payout if you ended up getting if fixed.

Good luck, and get well.

+1 in fact, you certainly don't want to negotiate against yourself - don't be tempted to give the insurance company a value - let them come out of the box with one, then counter the **** out of it on the high side, keeping an eye on the ball for the compromise number that you really wanted to begin with.
also, be careful what you say here - a good adjuster may just read this board - especially if you have the "Rennlist" decal on your window!

Correct Mr. Shark Attack. They have not yet contacted me with a number, but I talked with the Guy at the tow shop who told me that the adjuster had already come and gone and mentioned a figure to him of $13,XXX. I will do whatever I can to get more than that because it will most certainly cost me more than that to get a truly comparable 928. I waited a long time before for the right 928 before I bought this one and I'll be patient now to get the best car possible within my budget. I think I will try to get a nice 5-speed this time since I missed that extra control and driving envolvement that I had in my first 928.

Of course if they are willing to give me $13k and the car then I'll go that route, but I think that's unlikely.

Candleman: Maybe you can them that you specifically bought and loved that car because of its rare color and exceptional condition. Tell them it will be extremely difficult to find another one in that color AND condition to replace it, and will involve travel or other cost to find, inspect, and bring home.

And you would not even have to make this up!

If you just bought it in September that was what the car was worth, the 15k that you paid plus any repairs taxes registration fees. It sucks that your Insurance company neglected to add it to your policy , just good that you were not at fault !
