are you looking at some fenders on Ebay or something? By the time you have them shipped it would only have cost you a couple hundred more to have the correct ones. The early ones ar longer on the front end as the bumpers are different. Yeah i suppose you could modify them, but thats going to cost more then it would be to get the correct ones in the first place.

I'm doing this right now.
It's not worth the hassle to make early fenders fit when S4/GT fenders are so plentiful.
I went through it because I wanted Euro fenders (I like the side markers better)and couldn't find any Euro S4 fenders out there but did get a set of Euro S fenders on a trade.
The front edge on the older fenders has an extra lip, and the mounting holes are higher on the flange. The portion in front of the wheel opening must be trimmed off and flanged along a compound angle to mate with the S4 bumper cover, and then holes have to be drilled in the flange. Even if you nail the front the rear seams may need some work. My driver side lines up well in the back, the passenger side is going to need some massaging to tighten the seam between the upper surface and windshield coweling.
